[ Hello network. When the video first comes on, all that's really visible is the ceiling, and the audio is a soft, gentle snore. A second later, however, a spherical white and orange droid rolls into view, looming over the camera. He beeps a hello in Binary, though the meaning translates well enough regardless, and then proceeds to type using a tiny extendable arm onto Poe's communicator. ]

He does appear to greatly appreciate physical contact, though I cannot cuddle him back with any ease or comfort, so it mostly has to be initiated from his side.

Also I am not very soft.

You could roll right up to him and beep loudly to demand cuddles and knock into his leg until he gives them. Honestly? It works for cats.

You don't even have to be soft. My idiot human is kind of bony, with sharp elbows, but still a good cuddle. Maybe make some coo-ing beeps? Can you purr and softly vibrate? Purring is kind of comforting.

I want to say I'm not round, and to be fair I'm not as much as I used to be, and not anywhere near as mathematically perfect in my roundness as you are, but yeah, I'm kind of roundish.

That sounds like it would be extremely effective on Poe. I will attempt it.

I am unsure about the vibrating, but I am willing to try. He can always tell me if it is not helpful.

And you cuddle with a bony human, to good effect? I am unable to change my chassis - but being less round would make movement very difficult.

This is true. Feedback is important. For science. And stuff.

I do. To VERY good effect, yeah, dude. When something or someone (do you consider yourself a "something" or a "someone"? just curious) is good at cuddles, shape doesn't matter. And yeah, don't change your chassis unless that's a thing YOU want to do. You do you, round one.

After checking the colloquial meanings for "softy": Yes. This is an accurate assessment.

I am both a something and a someone, though Poe would argue solely for the latter. However his perception of droid personhood is not shared by most in our galaxy.

[ There is a pause as BB-8 processes the rest. It's not something he really knows how to reply to, but it does give him a sense for Newt in general. After a few seconds: ]

Would you like to make friends with him?

I don't know about your galaxy, but considering there's a fair amount of human beings in the multiverse who would deny even other human beings their personhood, I think you should listen to Poe and not those other people.

[Newt isn't sure what to say to that. He doesn't feel like he's exactly been great at making friends in the past, and especially not lately, all things considered, but this Poe sounds like a good guy and he really likes the droid, if nothing else.]

While I appreciate Poe's viewpoint, the reality is that I do not share the same rights and freedoms as an organic being. Poe would not allow someone to memory wipe me, but that is because I am considered his property, not because I am considered his friend.


Poe makes friends very easily. I am sure he can make up for any deficiencies you may have in that regard.
