I suppose it's all the better for them to experience it first, then decide how they feel about being here.

This place is different but not wholly unpleasant.

I agree with that, myself.

But I think my thing is... in the year or so that I've been here, I've lost a few friends, and they've come back, only to disappear a few months later. After a while it just feels like... it's unfair to us, but also to them to keep pulling them back to this place and then letting them go.

One in particular has been here before, twice now. And it was difficult. I don't really think he found peace in it, or was able to enjoy all of the new experiences offered.

That is an unfortunate situation. I have been here a year and a half myself and have seen many I know of come and go. For me, many have been enemies.

We cannot know the will and purpose of the Porter.

And it seems like you've outstayed most of them.

[ sigh ] The last time we tried to understand it, it nearly killed us. If it would just make it's desires known to us, it'd save us all a lot of trouble.

There is indeed much mystery about its choices. But to dwell on it would be a pointless frustration. For now, we can only live our lives and keep some hope.
