[ The feed opens on Cassandra’s apartment- or what soon will not be Cassandra’s apartment, as one may be able to tell from the fact that everything’s in boxes behind her. Cassandra is on screen, certainly not looking or sounding as terrible as the last time she posted on the network, but still a good bit exhausted. And a bit...frustrated? It could be worse. There's a portion of the screen behind her that's hard to focus on, as if it doesn't want to be looked at. ]

Okay. So- for those of you who are actually interested in figuring shit out around this place, I’ve got a request. Or- we do, apparently. [ Suddenly, that portion of the screen is just fine being looked at, where the tall figure and gazelle skull mask of the Psychopomp looms behind Cassandra. ]

We’re looking for magic users. Anyone with... [ She taps her chin. Clearly she’s trying to find the right words, for a number of reasons. ] Offensive abilities. Or some sort of psychic powers. [ Psychopomp raises one finger, interjecting from behind her: ] Not offensive, as such. The abilities we seek have to do with the mind, particularly in the binding together of them.

God. Fine, yeah, what they said. It’s all abstract anyway, fucking...supernatural bullshit. [ She waves a hand around, as if that’ll assist her point. ] What we’re saying is we need some help on a project. A big one. So if you can do that- and if you’re willing to do it with pretty fucking high stakes- let us know.

Be warned, when we speak of high stakes, we mean the highest of stakes in this land. We mean to mitigate them, with thy help, and perhaps they will be reduced for thee enough to be as naught, but this task is not for such that cannot steel themselves to such a task. If thou art serious, we appreciate thy inquiry.

...They mean you could get hurt, if you need a translation. [ She’s a journalist. She likes blunt language. ] Oh- and if you want something a little less dangerous, we could use some help with a survey, too. Much less potentially deadly. Thanks in advance to those of you who actually give a shit, I guess.

She would, if given opportunity. Her character is known to me, and it is one I would prefer to avoid allying myself with, when it is my choice.

[ Cassandra rolls her eyes and leans back in her chair slightly. Christ. ]

Look- it's not that I think you're lying or something, but you realize this is the kind of thing where petty grudge bullshit may have to go by the wayside? And when I say petty grudge, I mean petty. So is it actually something dangerous?

Yes.

In power and in attitude, she presenteth a certain danger to myself that precludeth any trust I may extend to her. A grudge this may be, but it is far from petty.

[ Cassandra gets it. After all, if Woden were to show up on this post? His powers may be useful, sure, but he's never going to get her trust again. She barely trusted him before, and that was more than enough. ]

How about this- her abilities seem useful, so I might as well figure out what they are and keep her in our back pocket for anything that goes horribly wrong. But she's not joining us unless the world's going to end or some shit like that. Deal?

[ Cass. The world is already going to end, that's why they're doing any of this. ]

She hath admitted herself that her abilities are not developed in the areas we seek. Even the back pocket is too close to keep her. Buried in a shoe box, under concrete, below a raging river, schooled by flesh-eating aquatic monsters. Just in case.

[ Damn. ]

...I get the picture. [ She pauses. ] Seriously, should I know this story? Is she some sort of threat I should worry about, too? Because the one person I'd feel the same way about is someone I try to warn most people away from.

That depends. Art thou among the Dead? Otherwise, I have found that such warnings often fall on deaf ears.

[ But she's sure given Jacob an earful already about letting her into Aegis. ]

[ For a moment Cassandra pauses. She doesn't feel like Psychopomp much about herself yet.

But this isn't a secret. Hell, in her world, it was common knowledge. ]

If "among the dead" isn't a metaphor...I will be. And not exactly in the "the way everyone is" sense.

I know you don't like me for... some reason. But if Atropos is half the things I've heard about her, my only criteria for allies in dealing with her is that they don't want the world destroyed.

And I would limit my alliances on this matter to those I can trust. Thou art far outside that number.

You're on the right track. So how could you assist us, exactly?

I know binding spells- and protection spells. And dealing with powerful supernatural entities was part of my duties back home. I also have some experience casting magic in coordination with others.

But my knowledge of mental magic is limited, and given the consequences of things going wrong, I don't feel comfortable experimenting with it.

Well- binding's exactly what we'd need. Mental magic would be ideal, but I don't blame you for wanting to avoid it for something like this.

[ Although... ] Would you be willing to practice? Get better at it, so you can use it to help?

I think that depends on what the goal is. I have two books on magic from my world, and I've been studying them, but if it's not in there, I'd suggest you look elsewhere. I've seen the dangers of overreaching with magic.

Also... I can teach my magic to others. If you're not doing this immediately... I want to look for students to teach. If what I've heard about Atropos is true, it's not something a single imPort or a small group could handle.

Look, I'd rather not put a bunch of inexperienced novices in danger, here. I know Psychopomp likes to speak in metaphor, but they actually meant there's a risk of dying here. I get the offer, but forgive me if I'd rather have people who have actual experience with magic on our side for this one.

So just me then. The only other mages I know well enough to ask are a healer and someone who specializes in combat magic.

The reason I suggested it is that mages who use my type of magic- or one of them... when we cast together, the effect is multiplicative, rather than additive.

If you could ask them, that'd be something. We could probably find some use for both of them.

And it being multiplicative sounds great...but I still don't want to risk anyone who just learned those spells fucking them up when we need it the most. You could train someone experienced in other magic, maybe, but- not that.

I'll talk to Blue and Cecelia then- Blue actually uses the same kind of magic I do, he just only knows how to heal.

I will... and I've been meaning to put out a call for students anyway.

Cecelia- the one that just got here last month? Isn't she a teenager? Hell, I don't know how old you are, but I'd rather have a moratorium on putting kids in danger, here.

I'm eighteen. And I've been walking in Death since I was twelve. And I work with Cecilia, she's dealt with danger before.

What assholes were letting a twelve-year-old walk with death? [ She says incredulously, as if Sabriel couldn't have done that on her own. ]

At least you're legally an adult. Look, you can run it by her, but I'd rather not have too many kids hanging around while we try not to trigger the apocalypse.
