Good evening, my name is Walter Strickler. I'm a new arrival here, and I thought it best that I introduce myself. More than that, actually, I was hoping to ask a question.

I am in the midst of familiarizing myself with the history of this world, and how it differs from my own... Most of the discrepancies have been fairly minute, others less so, but it lead me to wondering about other worlds. Your worlds, and the histories theirin; if you care to share them. I suppose I'm just curious, is it common for most of us... "imports" to be from worlds that are similar, or ones that are vastly different? Is there anything here that has struck you as odd?

[There's a small pause, an aside glance, as he arranges the wording of his next question carefully.]

And, are 'powers' common where you're from? Whether it be mutations, magic, or anything of the sort. Are these things familiar to you?

Please do forgive me if I take a moment to understand anything you have to share. I must admit, I am still attempting to process all of this... But I would not want to have anyone feeling put-out for my misgivings. Thank you. I look forward to getting to know you all better.

It doesn't ring a bell, but I'm not sure if that's just a matter of not hearing about it. That's the tricky thing about all this.

Perhaps we should start on a larger scale and work downwards. Is it in the US?

It is. It's in New York State? Riverdale is our neighboring town, making it only a few hours drive to the Canadian border.

[ At least, this is what canon gives us so far. ]

Then we may in fact be from the same world. I live in Arcadia, California, so it's no wonder that Greendale wouldn't sound familiar to me. I'm from the other side of the country!

The Golden State. That's exciting. I've never actually been out of Greendale to visit other states.

But to let you know, this world seems to change its geography at random apparently. We don't know why, but it happened a while ago with some city emerging overnight.

I think I've heard something about that. What was it... Jeopardy? Or are there others?

Just Jeopardy so far. I haven't heard anything about other cities in the past popping up.

That's good. One mysterious city is plenty.

A pleasure to meet you, Ms. Spellman. Have you been in this world long?

A couple of months, not as long as some. There are some documents floating around written by someone who's been here a few years. It's pretty useful.

I'll have to look into those, then. I've been trying to learn as much local history as I can.

Though admittedly, I got distracted for a few hours with finding the differences in ancient history. Research can be a black hole if you aren't careful.

[This is mostly a nerd problem.]

Are you a sort of historian then? Or is it merely a hobby?

Historian may be a bit much, but... yes, it’s more accurate than mere hobby. I taught World History at a public high school.

Did they give you the same job here or something completely weird?

More on the ‘completely weird’ side, I'm afraid. I work at ‘Dunker and Ymer Mediation Services’. It's not what I would have chosen.

[And he REALLY doesn't appreciate that it's named after two mythological trolls. Somebody in the government did that on purpose, he's sure of it.]

Mediation? Like some kind of social services?

Yes, sort of. I act as a third party to help our clients solve their disputes. No matter how serious or... inconsequential it may be.

Do you like that? You're able to change careers if you want.

I don't like it terribly, no. I'm intending to get another teaching job here.

It shouldn't too difficult. Apparently it's a lot easier though if you're Registered.

Thankfully I am, and I intend to stay that way.

You're not worried at all about being Registered?

No. Well, not for the most part.. . The tattoos we've been given, and the silent expectation of helping their cause is troubling.

But I discussed my discomfort to the government agents upon arrival, and they seemed accommodating... The Porter doesn't always choose warriors, after all. Not everyone can fight.

Despite the fact that I can't help them in that way, they've allowed me to stay in the government housing regardless. I'm appreciative of that.

['Not being able to help' is a lie. The agents who saw his file know the truth, but the fact that they're keeping that information classified is another thing to be grateful for.]

It still feels like a draft of sorts.

Yes, I suppose it is like one. But in truth, I'm surprised by the amount of things we aren't being asked of directly. We are unexpected arrivals in a country caught in a cold war, and the process itself has made us powerful in unexpected ways.

It's something of a miracle that things aren't much worse.

[They're not perfect, but they're not bad. Not even close to the standards he's already used to.]
