[ video comes up, and there is Kaneki and Cass looking at the camera. He is sitting down with a serious expression and nods at Cass to let her know he will start ] It has been a week since the Death Island Swear-in, and we actually have a lot of things to discuss. [ so… many… ]

During the Swear-In, myself and a team of imPorts met with an OTO representative from a less extreme branch of their organization. We talked and they said all they want to do is to send us home: this branch has no plans on killing us, but they also don’t really care about Atropos. All they want is for us to go home. So they suggested us working together on just that: they want us to establish a spy to report back on government and imPort projects regarding the imPort multiverses and multidimensional advances. In return, they’d do the same and tell us about their own interdimensional travel efforts. [ by kaneki’s expression, he is not Impressed. ]

We decided we would ask the imPort community what you want to do. Ideas, options, opinions. I do want to remind you, however, we never established direct contact with the OTO before, this is the first time. [ so it’s good to think things through.

After, Kaneki will look back at Cass because this trip is not over yet. ]

Yeah, I’m here too. Again. [ She’s starting to realize this is a pattern, at this point. ] So, if you’re wondering about the actual permanent-death-inducing laser cannon that caused what we were all memorializing over there- it’s not there anymore. And it’s probably in the hands of OTO. Because we can’t have a single fucking moment of peace around here, obviously.

[ After taking a moment to rub her forehead: ] Specifically, it’s owned by a company called Agile Systems Solutions that OTO owns most of the stock of- well, companies associated with them do. Let’s just say it’s OTO and get it over with. Kaneki’s thinking we should pool our combined riches and harness the power of late capitalism to worm our way in, so if you’re an imPort that actually has money, feel free to pitch in, I guess. Or whatever you want to do. Point is, something that can off any of us for good is in the hands of a bunch of mass murderers who want to murder us specifically, which makes me think we probably shouldn’t trust them with any spies...but obviously we’re all leaving that to you people. Try not to lose your shit.

That plan from- uh- Psychopomp and I last month is still on the table, by the way. [ She sighs. ] Like I said. Try to actually think before you pitch a fit, here? We kind of have a potential apocalypse to prevent.

Oh, I don't either. Jacob's nice, but he's... [ Well, she's trying to cut down on being mean, isn't she? She stops. ] He's willing to do what he has to to make something like Aegis exist. But I'd never let the government be a part of something I'm in, either.

And- they're from the same world, but no, I think it's just a coincidence. At least...from what I remember. [ She's not much of a nerd, after all. ]

So then I'm guessing you're not registered either, right?

God, no. And I was the person who tried to get the people around me to not be vigilantes in my world. It was kind of hard to feel the same way when the first thing that happened here was finding out that the government inserted nanomachines into my body.

[ Apollo winces in alarm. ]

Oh, God, don't say 'inserted' like that. I'll be sick.

[ Honestly that isn't even the bit he has the biggest problem with, but still. ]

[ She sees what he’s saying, though, and figures she won’t press. ]

What I’m trying to say is that we can barely trust them around here, not that it’s a good bet anywhere. But we’re also practically their wards, so it’s a little hard to just dismiss them. I know that’s why Aegis needs them, even if I don’t like it.

I guess so. And if Aegis wants to work with the government and take their money, that's their prerogative. I'd say 'surely the American government isn't stupid enough to think we'll all play by their rules', but...

[ he doesn't even need to finish that sentence, does he! ]

Honestly, they probably know that, they just don’t want to admit it. Enough of the imPorts here actually do follow their regulations enough that they can pretend it works. How do you think so many people still end up Registering?

[ There’s a solid amount of derision in her voice; clearly she likes that Apollo agrees with her. ]

[ Shrugging: ]

Can't fault people for wanting free money, I guess.

[ He says that with complete and utter sincerity; he remembers what it was like to live on the streets. It's not a life he'd wish on anyone. ]

Thanks for this. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one with a healthy dose of scepticism when it comes to these things.

I get that. But there’s plenty of ways they get money around here without the government- we’re all quite popular, if you couldn’t tell.

[ But she’s a little more pleasant about Apollo’s comment; she feels similarly. ] Are you kidding? I’ve had to wade through this bullshit for nearly a year. I don’t know how everyone isn’t skeptical, but I’ll take anybody I can get.

[ Apollo nods, both resigned and a little disgruntled as he agrees: ]

Yeah. I guess with this OTO bullshit hanging over our heads it's just a case of prioritising the people trying to actively kill you as more of a problem than the people trying to give you free housing.

[ He throws his hands up a little in despair. ]

One is more of a pressing issue, sure, but we can't forget the other.

[ He'd immediately throw both in the sun if he could!! ]

Oh, you’re telling me. I’ve got plenty of shit to say about twenty different things going on here, but I’d like to prioritize the whole potential end of the world thing.

[ Something they haven’t gotten deep into detail on. She raises an eyebrow. ]

What do you know about that so far?

[ Ah. Suddenly this feels a little bit more like home. ]

Blissfully ignorant, as of about five seconds ago.

[ He sits back heavily in his chair with an expression of weary resignation; it would nice to be able to get really, really drunk right now... ]

What kind of end of the world are we talking here?

Shit. You think we’d put that in the introduction packets.

[ That’s only half sarcastic. ]

The short summary- there was a world Lachesis, this deity who had the porter made, put imPorts in before. It got destroyed when her sister Atropos came in and destroyed it, and now it seems like Atropos is here. That and Lachesis is apparently weakened, so it’s up to us puny mortals to deal with it.

[ He listens. He thinks. Then he throws his hands up in the air with an exasperated grimace. ]

This place is a shit show, isn't it?

[ Apollo may be noisily complaining but he secretly loves it. Mostly. Look, it's something to do, okay? ]

How do you know Atropos is here? Has anyone seen her?

What, you didn't know before?

[ Cassandra sighs. She's always explaining this stuff to people, and it never gets easier. ]

I know because I'm the one who saw her. Me and Inanna- they're from my world, they're gone now. We went looking for Lachesis and got a brain full of giant fangs instead. She's aligned with OTO, from what we know.

The molehill turned in to a mountain pretty damn quickly.

[ It escalated in the space of like ten messages. It's a lot to take in!! ]

So what, does she want to kill everyone in this world? [ His expression turns a little indignant as he adds: ] I mean, do the OTO not realise that they're also in the world that she's trying to end?

I think she doesn't care how many people die. She let everyone die in the last world there were imPorts in- she'll do the same fucking thing here.

[ It's clear from her tone that she's thought about this a lot. The bitterness has grown. ]

As for OTO- like Kaneki was saying, some of them want more to do with her than the others. But they're all assholes, and they're all in over their head.

[ Apollo laughs mirthlessly at that; there's no humour in it whatsoever. ]

Oh, good. They're terrorists and idiots.

[ Which unfortunately isn't a combination that can be underestimated so easily. If anything that just makes them more dangerous. Apollo shakes his head. ]

So, what - do we just wait for this Atropos lady to resurface and take pot-shots at her when she does? How do we even start combatting something like that?

The plan Psychopomp and I are working on is the closest thing we’ve got. But even then, that’s going to be mostly psychic magic bullshit, and that’s just to find her. [ She sighs. He would have missed that. Right. ] It’s a long story- point is, yeah, we’ve been stuck waiting out for her until now. The goal is not to be.

...And then for us to do it without killing everyone. Obviously.

Well, last time I killed a god we just, uh... [ His expression turns a little pained. In his defence, Apollo isn't the ideas guy. ] ...Flew inside it and gave it a huge electric shock.

[ Apollo shrugs helplessly. ]

But personally if I can't throw it, hit it, or set it on fire then I'm all out of ideas. 'Psychic magic bullshit' sounds like a damn good plan to me.

Good to know your gods are very different from ours. And- that you can just go ahead and kill them? Not that that part should be unusual to me, but.

[ Superheroes are fucking weird. ]

It's all we've got. I just wish we could be sure about any of this shit.

I think most of the throwing shit around is going to be on some sort of...mind realm, but I get your point. You’ll hear if we need you.
