[There's a stack of thick books next to her and a mug of coffee, and a look somewhere between exhaustion and boredom in her eyes. Helena has obviously been busy reading.]
Over thirty years of law to catch up on, plus an entirely different world history to go with it. I must have been crazy to think I could catch up on it in a snap.
If only my Columbia professors could see me now.
Still. Need to remember why I'm doing this. So I can put my legal skills back to use.
Anybody else face any career challenges when they got here?

Re: video
That's good. Going through law school once was enough.

So you've already gone through law school? Like, all of it? You look pretty young for that to be the case.
[ He doesn't sound disbelieving, however; he's been here long enough to know how this works. This place seems to attract nothing but geniuses, some days. ]
Re: video
And I am young for that to be the case. I graduated at twenty-one. Always been a good student.

They put me into a job as a children's party magician, and that is... just no. I've done a few small jo0bs and am still job hunting.
Re: video, private
Party magician? You don't exactly seem the type.
Re: video, private
I suspect they thought it was funny, making a wizard have a party magician's job.

Depends on if you mean careers from home or the one they saddled us with when we got here.
Re: [voice]
Mostly the second one. Or at least, transitioning the second one back to the first.

I still sometimes can't tell dogs and cats apart.
Re: video
You don't have cats or dogs where you're from?
Re: video
[a pause, he thinks... thirty years of law?]
You're from... that long ago?

[A quiet snort of laughter.] Oh, yeah, definitely. I went from being a lawyer to investigating insurance claims, and in my free time I was—pretty much where you are right now, actually. If you want, I can pass you the notes I used to review for the bar. There’s not actually a whole lot of real difference in laws between worlds, other than concessions made for imPorts.
Re: [video]
Always nice to meet a fellow grad.
I'd appreciate that. I'm starting to see the same thing, though lots of new laws for technology that isn't around in my world too.

And, hey, while we’re here, what are you planning to do once you get a license to practice here?

[The subject being the whole of history. Roland doesn't believe in sleep.
Sleep is how the nightmares creep in.]I wish you luck on getting your old job back. I don't think I'd be able to get mine. [He chuckles. Pretty sure the current president wouldn't appreciate that too much.] But I'm still trying to find something a bit different than "motivational speaker."
Re: video
What did you do before?

[Like he did in the other world.]
I was chief consul to a young king.
[Not a lie! Just not the job he was referring to.]

Ooofffff. Yeah, that's got to be rough.

At least the fundamentals of law should be the same for you...maybe? Though I guess the fundamentals aren't enough, judging by what you said.

It's... not great. Might try for a GED, here, but... don't see the point.
