Over thirty years of law to catch up on, plus an entirely different world history to go with it. I must have been crazy to think I could catch up on it in a snap.

If only my Columbia professors could see me now.

Still. Need to remember why I'm doing this. So I can put my legal skills back to use.

Anybody else face any career challenges when they got here?

I'm pretty sure everyone does. Either they get saddled with a crappy job or they gotta go out and get re-certified for whatever it is they usually do, like you. But the government here's got some special resources for imPorts so you don't gotta go through, like, another ten years of schooling just to do what you've always been doing.

So you've already gone through law school? Like, all of it? You look pretty young for that to be the case.

They put me into a job as a children's party magician, and that is... just no. I've done a few small jo0bs and am still job hunting.

Not so much a career challenge, but I had to relearn what all the animals here were. They're not like the ones back home an' it's a big part of our culture...

[A quiet snort of laughter.] Oh, yeah, definitely. I went from being a lawyer to investigating insurance claims, and in my free time I was—pretty much where you are right now, actually. If you want, I can pass you the notes I used to review for the bar. There’s not actually a whole lot of real difference in laws between worlds, other than concessions made for imPorts.

What kind of tech have you got in your world? I always kinda took it for granted that tech levels for most worlds are at least comparable, save for a few outliers.

If you need any help with the history I've read a fair number of the library books on the subject.

[The subject being the whole of history. Roland doesn't believe in sleep. Sleep is how the nightmares creep in.]

I wish you luck on getting your old job back. I don't think I'd be able to get mine. [He chuckles. Pretty sure the current president wouldn't appreciate that too much.] But I'm still trying to find something a bit different than "motivational speaker."

It helps that my original world is similar to this. It's easier to remember the differences than having to start from scratch.

No one's entitled to an agent, or publication, or sales, so I guess I can't explain too much. But man, it stinks.

At least the fundamentals of law should be the same for you...maybe? Though I guess the fundamentals aren't enough, judging by what you said.
