['SUP IMPORTS, did you miss this guy? He's giving the communicator a particularly sour expression as he sits out on the front porch of his residence, #14.]

...Well, this sucks.

[He didn't even get to be home an hour, man. At least his injuries are healed again, but jeez........]

Soooo, do I even wanna know what all I missed?

[His tone rather suggests he doesn't; Kotetsu expects something or another has managed to go horribly awry in the month he's been gone--things have been one disaster after another since May.]

[Believe it or not, Kotetsu is not actually fundamentally incapable of forethought. And these guys sound like hells of bad news.]

If the Porter brings a Marker here, we're fucked. That's all there is to it.

Is there anyone who's...dead...that you feel responsible for? That you'd recognize their face? That's...really personal, I know, but yes or no is fine.

You don't know that. There's all sortsa different powers here. We can take 'em.

[He thinks he should know the answer to that before he gives his own.]

Something that dangerous, I wanna know more about what to expect than "you'll know if it happens."

[It's more like a mix of the two. He feels guilt for his inability to save her from her illness, feels like he abandoned her to go do his job when she insisted he do so.]

Just...look. If a Marker shows up we'll know. When they activate, they send out this EMP that knocks out all power and communications. If that happens, and you start seeing those people that aren't here, remember they're not here. They're not real. Remember it's just the Marker fucking with you.

[Kotetsu has no idea what an EMP is, but he gets the general gist. If there's a power outage and he thinks he sees Tomoe, don't trust it.

...God, though, he doesn't think he could bring himself to harm even a false image of Tomoe.]

There any way to, uh, stop 'em from doing that?

Back in my world, they'd developed an encapsulating shield that kept them dormant, but they had to be built inside of them. If they were allowed to activate, the people closest to them went nuts immediately, then all Hell broke loose, so no. There's no way to stop it. You just...have to deal with it.

And deal with a lot of dead people.

[That's a lot of words that means very little to him right up until 'there's no way to stop it'.]

How do they work? We've got people who're psychics and stuff 'round here, maybe they could...I dunno, protect people's heads from getting mucked around with. And don't we have a couple people that can control tech, too? So if they know what to look for...

[Because no, he's not gonna just "deal with" a lot of dead people if this happens. >:| That's not what a Hero does.]

That's just it. It's not just...just tech. It's...a conduit, for energy from deep space.

...a conduit...like a funnel, for energy. It's the signal that...that changes people, makes them nuts and turns them into crazy monsters.

...If it needs that signal thing to work, then this place is probably safe, right? 'Cause it's a different outer space than here. And anyway, couldn't a techy person just block or jam the signal or something if it was around??

Is it a different space? Maybe, but this place is Earth. I come from an Earth, too. If...if this universe has an Earth, who says it doesn't have everything else?
