001 ⌘ VOICE;
[ River's voice is slightly wandering, but thoughtful. ]
A hero is an imperfect idea, full of good intentions and bad decisions, too many questions and not enough answers. Good people, bad people, it only depends on what side you're on. But I can tell which is which, I've always been able to. There are people here that aren't as good as they say they are, but also those who aren't as bad at they think.
No one really knows who they are. No one wants to.
[ There's a pause. ]
This place seems good for finding out who they are. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

[ He offers a slightly rueful smile. ]
Welcome to Earth, River. I'm Poe. Poe Dameron.
no subject
[ She says it like she's testing the name and what it means. River doesn't return the smile, but neither does she give much in the way of any expression at all. ]
Thank you. It's... nice, so far. Not like I was expecting.
no subject
Do you mean based on the Earth in your universe, or...?
no subject
[ Truth be told, no one really knows what Earth-That-Was looked like anymore. It's as much myth as fact. But the extrapolations can be made. ]
no subject
Though I don't hate Jakku half as much as Finn does.
So what planet are you from, then?
no subject
[ Still, it's kind of enormous to her that she gets to experience even one version of it, even if this Earth wasn't the same as the Earth from her world's history. ]
Osiris, seventh planet of the White Sun system.
no subject
Don’t know the planet, unfortunately, but that’s not a surprise. None of the stars are right, here.
Earth-that-was... is that where humans were originally from, in your universe? [ Assuming she was human. ] Is your galaxy the same as this one, just a lot further into the future?
no subject
No, different. 34-Tauri is the 'Verse now. Everything known to people anymore.
Where is Jakku?
no subject
But he doesn't want to look dumb, so.
He just pretends he got it. ]
In my galaxy. Inner Rim. It's not here - I've looked. None of the stars here line up, so. This universe either doesn't have my galaxy at all, or we're just in a completely different one. I don't know.
no subject
[ It was strange how neither of them was in their home universe and yet there were similarities. Perhaps humans were just predictable regardless of origin. ]
Outside of the Core is the Border, then farther out, the Rim.
no subject
No shit? I guess you guys kind of laid out the place like we did. We've got the core - and the deep core, technically - then the colonies, the inner rim, the mid rim, the outer rim. Then there's wildspace and the unknown regions, but-- That's kind of crazy, right? That we'd have the same names for things?
no subject
[ Still, the similarity cheers her. ]
Do you travel a lot?
no subject
Back home, or here? Because I guess the answer is yes either way. I'm a pilot.
Unfortunately there's no real way to get off planetside here, unless you count taking a day trip to Luna. What about you?
no subject
How big is your 'Verse?
[ Her eyes light up and her voice corresponds; Wash has been teaching her some things about piloting, and she's happy to be learning what books can't teach her. ]
My new home is a ship.
i can't believe i spent so long researching the answer to this question and then never wrote the tag
Big. I don't think I could count, on the top of my head. Couple hundred main sequence stars, most of those have multiple planets. And a lot of those planets have moons.
There's billions of people, and not just humans like me, but a lot of other races too. That's something I've never managed to get used to, here.
[ But his eyes light up too, at the mention of a ship. ]
A ship, huh? What kind of things did they run, there? Did you live with a full crew?
rude DW I wasn't done typing yet.
[ Way to be verbose, River. ]
Cargo and freight. Full crew of five. Passengers become crew, part of the family.
no subject
Instead, he smiles at his description. ]
Yeah, squad mates end up family too.
Any of yours here?
no subject
[ It's intriguing, since Serenity is such a solo vessel. ]
No... it's just me.
no subject
[ He lets out a breath as she continues, and a small, pained smile coming to his lips that she can't see. ]
I'm sorry to hear that. [ And he is. It's a rough thing to go through. ] Keep an eye out, though. People come and go here all the time - there's a good chance someone with your crew will show up, too.
