Soooooooooooooooo. I feel like a lot of times when we post on here it's something serious, or someone left, someone arrived, you get it. And honestly, I've got no problem with that cause it makes sense! But how about some more icebreakers?

FanPort got me thinking cause obviously all the locals are crazy about superheroes, and even non-superheroes, but what about you guys? If you come from a world with superheroes like me, you've got a pretty good head start on everyone else. Still, everyone's probably got some kind of hero, right?

And now I'm sure you're wondering, "Stephanie, who is your favorite superhero?"

Well, drumroll please...

[The drumroll is so she can think of a good answer. It's not working.]

Uh. I had a poster of Superboy when I was in high school. Wait, is Superboy here? I just realized how weird this could potentially get...

I've never heard of Superboy. Is he a powerfully ally of justice?

[ She claps her hands together. ]

I admired the heroines I used to see on the TV as a child. They were always so strong and beautiful, but dedicated to helping others and getting justice for those who could not defend themselves.

We're talking heroes, huh? I never heard of any Superboy, but I know who my top pic'd be. Back home, there was this guy named Billy. He was pretty much The Hero and a really super guy! He... really inspired me in heroing and adventuring and all that biz.

For one from a world without that phrase, it is rather ambiguous.

[ The boy(?) with the deep black eyes pauses, considering. ]

How would you define a "superhero"?

Back home there's never been a Guardian so loved as Saint-14. Can't blame 'em, he was a pretty great guy. Total weirdo, but good. Need some space pirate skulls bashed in? Call in Saint.

But really? My favorite, of course, is me. If you're not your #1 fan, who is?

[ Superboy, huh? Interesting. She remembers a couple super people at one point or another, after the other one died, though it could be a complete coincidence. It's not exactly the most original name in the world. ]

My affection for certain flying rodents aside, Wonder Woman. I've always been a sucker for a strong woman.

Not that we ever referred to them as superheroes... but my heroes growing up were the first Paladins of Voltron, my father and his friends — the first Defenders of the Universe. It was their shining example that made me hope I could become a Paladin myself, someday.

It's one of the reasons I find FanPort so endearing. I can't help but hope that some of them will be inspired in the same way.

I'm from a world with super heroes, too! I guess it would probably be cheating if I said my favourite heroes were my team, huh? [ There's a tinkling little laugh. ] Since I don't want to cheat, I should probably choose from the heroes I haven't met yet!

[ There's a little bit of silence, then a small 'hmmmm'. ]

I think I would most like to meet the Mariner! He's one of Florida's longest working heroes, and I hear he's a really great guy! A lot of the members of the adult Hero League of our state have gotten to meet him, but the Illinois Junior League members like myself don't usually get to meet with adult heroes from that far across the country. There have been some whispers about him retiring, so I might not get to meet him... But it would be nice if I did!

[ She sounds so excited, and honestly interested in the idea, and for once genuinely is. The Mariner was certainly a hero to look up to in a world with a lot of heroes. At least, to her he was. ]

You know, I never really thought about superheroes before I became one. I didn't even know who half the people I'd met were.

[ A Superboy poster, though, huh? Cute. ]

Wonder Woman'd be a good choice. Everyone loves Wonder Woman. [ He pauses. ] And, just for the record, Superboy was here, like, a couple of times. Nice guy. Different world than the one I'm from, though.
girlybruiser: "i blow up bridges." (so what do you do?)

Oh!

[ Well, to be fair many superheroes are quite attractive! ]

Was he tall and handsome? With a dashing smile?
khajidont: (Jaime - Mild)

Nah, he left ages ago. It's been a couple years since I've seen him.

[ He grins a little at Steph. ] Tell you a secret. [ It is not at all a secret. And they're in public. Listen, let him just play coy. ] Booster Gold's the first superhero I ever met, and before I met him, I thought he was just a toothpaste mascot. Boy, was I surprised. [ His smile only fades a little at the question of who his favourite hero is. ]

I don't think you can pick favourites at a certain point. They're more like, um... friends than superheroes.

[ Though he does have an entire building financed by him called the Ted Kord Memorial Centre. It doesn't take much to clue in on who his favourite might be. ]

She's definitely up there. [And she's recently realised, you know, part of the reason why.

That is definitely not a blush Stephanie sees for a hot second. Oracle doesn't blush, shut up.]

As far as I know, there are no Superboys around at the moment.

That's true! I just wouldn't know it's him. We don't usually know the civilian identities of anyone we don't go through training with, you see. It's a safety precaution! That said, maybe if he retires, he'll come to visit this state and I'll get to meet him that way.

Hmph! Like bothering to look up to a hero gets you anywhere. The ones you have will inevitably fail you at some point. So why bother? Just save yourself the trouble and then you won't be disappointed when they do fail.

[ Dryly: ] Is the costume what makes it distinct from simply calling one a hero?

[ But he pauses a moment. ]

Would a mask count?

[personal profile] sexual 2019-07-07 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
[ If they've happened to cross paths in or out of costume, it hasn't managed to leave an impression on Selina. She doesn't recognize the face, and Selina's generally pretty good at remembering a face, but they're at least from the same place or someplace similar and that is interesting in and of itself. ]

It's always Superman and Batman. She more than keeps up with her male contemporaries, but the women rarely get the kind of credit or recognition they deserve. She's also just... insanely gorgeous.

[ Selina Kyle: hella bisexual. ]
