A recent conversation made me aware of the fact that while there is a large community of people here with powers of some sort, that some of us had them already before we arrived here and therefore know how to use them, and that others only got their powers when they arrived here. [Which makes them humans with powers, not mutants, but that's not a distinction he's going to get into right now.]

Which got me to thinking. Perhaps those of us who know how to use our powers could help those who don't learn how. Figure out the specifics, that sort of thing. Or does that happen already?

I have been meaning to find someone to help me learn to control my Porter-given powers. There are people in my galaxy with superhuman abilities, but I was never one of them.

I'd be real interested in knowing you how plan to run something like this. [Because he has some Major Doubts about it, and it starts with just how the set-up comes together in the first place.] Because the imPort community is, by all accounts, fucking huge, and that's a lotta personalities and potentially untrained powers in one space. Lot of ways for something like that to explode in all the worst ways, don'tcha think?

Which is exactly why people should learn how to use the powers they've got. Putting everyone in the same place would be impractical, but they wouldn't have to be.

That's not a terrible idea. The government kicks people out with a document telling you what you have but not how to deal with it. Most people I've seen just try to figure it out on the way.

I've been helping my brother, but if I can help others, I'd be willing to give it a go.

Their reasons for bringing people here and giving them powers would be a lot more effective if they knew how to use them.

[He's used to the idea of different timelines and different worlds by now. He has yet to come across someone from the same world as his, but there are a few here from worlds that have some version of him, and he knows some version of him has been here before. This is not a strange encounter for him.]

I was born with them, but they didn't manifest until I was fourteen.

There was H.O.P.E. at one point in time, which was designed to do much of the same thing, but I'm not sure if their founder's still around.

That said, I think there's always room for that kind of thing. God knows it took me a while to get the hang of my powers.

It sounds like a common occurrence, which is why something like this would be helpful.

We help out our junior members at the Justice League. But, honestly, we'd help anyone who needed it whether they wanted to join or not. I've held my fair share of flying lessons over the past, um, four years? Ish?

Do you only help those who need to learn how to fly, or could you help others too?

I think H.O.P.E does that sort of thing, but it's mostly for kids? I don't know if they'd train adults. It seemed more like a service offered than a focus.

I've had one of my powers my whole life, but, uh, I'm not really sure what type they are aside from 'animal communication', and that hardly seems like something someone needs to be taught to do. ... I think? Is that something people need to be taught to do? [ She sounds vaguely distressed, imagining someone needing to be taught to do what she'd just done without realising it for so many years. ]

My other two are fairly recent though, and I can always use training. I'm admittedly getting some from the Justice League and plan to get more when school starts back up, but I can always use more sources. I also don't think anyone else I've trained with has fire-starting powers, or the ability to jump through those flames and out another one, so, it's not like I'm able to get specialised training, so the broad range just feels wise to me.

I was thinking more along the broad lines, for a range of ages. Adults who are just given powers might not know what to do with them. Most of it would have to be generalized, learning how to control them and figuring out what can be done with them, but that's better than nothing.

[The mention of animal communication makes him think of Nina, and he'll need a moment before continuing.]

That depends. Have you ever communicated with animals when you didn't intend to? Lose control when you were under stress or afraid?

Well, there is an import community center in De Chima. I don't think anyone is actually giving out classes these days, but...

You could always lead the way, if you're the educating type.

That was the point of this post. To see if something was being done, or if something could be. I have nothing concrete yet, but it seems there's interest.

You're right, it should be happening. Untrained, out-of-control powers could easily be part of what makes people skittish about imPorts.
