[ So here's a new kid on the network tonight. Trying to find an angle that lets him hide at least some of his nervousness. Or at least lets him use it to channel his best impression of a Definitely Normal Team, No Superheroics Here Honest. He mostly just looks awkward and nerdy, which is … accurate anyway, so let’s go with that. ]

Hey - um, so I’m Peter. Peter Parker. And I just got here, and -

[ He’s read through what’s left of his files, he’s read through the last couple weeks of posts just to get a feel for things. After that, he has one incredibly important question: ]

Did I seriously just barely miss out on a Death Star being here? For real? That’s not fair. Please tell me it’s coming back at some point.

[ That’s probably an objectively incorrect thing to want, but. Look. That would have made his entire life. He could die happy. For the second time. Well, the second time dying, first time dying happy. Anyway, he turns reluctantly to the list of actual serious questions he made. Not enough time to ask them all (unless he just takes in a breath and rapid fire asks all of them in thirty seconds) so he’ll just pick one for now. ]

So, school. How is that working out for people who still hafta go? And can you like … argue with it at all? Because I’m all for finishing high school, but this is my third time going into sophomore year and I’m starting to feel like that movie with the Ghostbuster being depressed in Pennsylvania.

[ God. It hurts him how much he wants to trust a guy like Mysterio. Didn't he learn his lesson the first time? The safest thing to do would be to just avoid him, just in case he is wrong about this alternate world thing.

But only a few people here are even from home. And they barely know him. Thor has been a treasure, and Danvers has been friendly too, but ... it's not the same, is it. ]

[He raises the slice up as if to toast, grinning.]

It's pretty good, huh?

[ Oh for - that surprises a laugh out of him, but he also rolls his eyes. Seriously, dude. ]

All right, now I definitely believe you're not my version of Mysterio.

[He chuckles.]

Just trying to lighten the mood before it gets too dour.

Sorry, man. I used up all my fun energy on the post.

[ But he does relax, finishing off the last of his part of the pizza. ]

I'm sure it's been a long day for you.

What'll you do now?

Sleep, probably? Figure out this school thing before I get too far? Maybe work on some patrol routes.

Patrols? You're going to fight neighbourhood crime while you're here?

Why wouldn't I?

I'm not objecting. You do what you think is best. It's just very responsible of you. Not everyone would just jump back into it right away, without someone telling them to.

[ He just shrugs, helplessly. ]

If there's enough heroes already, then maybe I'll stop. But even the Avengers couldn't take care of everything. They don't get involved for small things.

That's why I admire you, Peter.

The other Peter I knew... but you both have the same qualities.

[A fond smile, as he finishes up his slice and the drink.]

Now, I think you should get some rest. You can't fight crime on an empty stomach or no sleep - and it's a whole new Earth to learn about and explore. So much to do. Rest up, and we can talk more later, OK?

[ He pinks a little, ducking his head. But Beck is right. He does need to rest and figure things out. Maybe he'll patrol this weekend instead ... ]

All right. I can do that.

[He nods, glad that Peter agrees and they're back on reasonable terms - even if Peter himself is unaware of the entire truth. He stands up, offering a hand to shake.]

[ He hesitates a moment. Then clasps Beck's hand, shaking it. ]

I'll see you around, kid.

[He makes sure to leave money for the meal then heads out, back to De Chima. There was a lot to think about and probably more to discuss but it could be left for another day, when they're both more used to this world and settled in.]
