Hey, quick survey.

Bats vs Spiders, which is better?

Alternatively, are superhero names really necessary?

I'm not really gonna do a Spider-Man vs Bat-Man. I don't know either.

I'm not from a world where there are superheroes. So to me, the names don't matter. It's the deeds that do. And I guess I don't really see how being called Spiders or Bats really does anything, to be honest.

It's a motif. Sometimes it describes powers. Sometimes it's about ideals or the image one hopes to project. Sometimes it's given to you.

I guess that's possible.

Are there motifs linked to bats and spiders I don't know about?

The two tend to evoke fear actually.

Yeah, that makes sense.

But isn't that depressing? To have a hero use that kind of symbol? To make people fear them?

Spidey doesn't. His costume is really vivid red and blue. His are power descriptive. Climbing walls and shooting webs and the like.

Wait, so he really has the powers of a spider?

Yep. Spider-Man, does whatever a spider can.

I'm so sorry for him.

Does he shoot webs from his mouth. How does that work. Is he okay???

No, not his mouth. Wrists. And the hows I can't tell you. I've never met him back home.

I guess wrists are marginally better.

And the webs allow Spider-Man to be a relatively non-violent hero. He can just restrain people.

Webs do work well as a restraining material, assuming the same strength carries over in a human form.

Oh, it definitely does. And he's really strong too.

I'm glad he didn't get stuck with the worst parts of a spider. That would be have distressing.

I don't know. He could have had some negatives I don't' know about.

I hope not.

Anyway it's good to hear he's such a positive hero.
