Contact: 1 - Time to say hello

[ The viewpoint spins very slowly and smoothly, not showing a face but a tree, the bark, a branch, a nest. Occasionally tiny fuzzy grey heads stick out over the nest, and their squawking can be heard. The nestlings are grey and white, with pin feathers and a couple have a crest. Someone is studying a nest of blue jays. ]

I’m pretty sure there is a parent around, but only pretty sure. I don’t really know what they are either. Some kind of bird but? Are they going to be alright? They keep yelling.

[ Help a new import out? ]

Which isn’t what I was thinking about saying, but they caught my attention. Anyway, I’ve been filled in, including being told I was here before, even if I don’t remember.

[ With that Anakin pulls the device closer to him, turning it to record him. He’s young, the scar over his face fresh and his hair is very short – he’s only recently knighted and had his braid cut, and his hair is still very short from the more traditional haircut. And his smile is not quite confident, even shy. ]

My name’s Anakin Skywalker, I’ve been here a couple days now. And um, so you need a ‘driver’s license’ I’ve been told. How many of you have gotten one, how did you do it? I’ve been a pilot all my life, these cars have to be easier than a ship. Even a speeder.

Not with your era's typical ignorance, no. Or even just yours in particular.

[Unless it involved a droid, a vehicle, or a fight anyway. Then even he'd acknowledge Anakin approached authority status.]

The two positions are analogous to sitting on your Order's High Council and whatever role currently acts as the commander-in-chief of the Republic military.

Only it involves keeping the various galactic factions pointed at a common enemy, rather than at each other's throats.

How wonderful. Assuming your faith isn't tragically misplaced, that means I can finally raise the number of Jedi capable of posing a threat all the way to four. The quality of the ones ported in so far has been rather mixed.

[And of the ones he had been around for, roughly half of them vanished before he could do much in the way of direct observation. He was having to rely on Jadus' notes, which was neither ideal nor welcomed.]

Entertain whatever delusions you wish. Just honor the truce and try to avoid causing any incidents. Our kind is largely welcomed, for now, but the local temperament is mercurial at the best of times.

I'm quite familiar with the sorry state of the Sith of your era. Believe me when I say that isn't the boast you think it is.

As for the Truce, the arrangements are simple. Whatever disputes we may have had in our galaxy, they stay there. We are not obligated to like one another, but we are not to resume our respective wars while on this world.

And that truce is not in place on the authority of any one person. Nor does any one person enforce it- we all have our reasons for upholding it. For some I'm sure concern for the local populace plays a role, others may just be tired of their respective wars. Others, like Jadus, never held any interest in the conflict in the first place.

If you want to know more, you will have to look into its origins yourself. It was already in effect when I arrived, and I did not learn of it directly. Your former padawan was the first to inform me of its existence.

At least try to keep up, Skywalker. You were older the last time you were here and you're currently speaking to a Sith Lord from more than three thousand years in your past. And there are still several people here from your future.

[At least one of whom he knows has already spoken up.]

Time has little meaning in this place as far as imPorts are concerned. Whether or not you have an interest in a padawan now, you take one eventually. Precisely when I do not know, only that it was during the Republic's war against the Confederacy of Independent Systems.

Oh, I sincerely doubt the Jedi suddenly learned to care about that little detail. They were sending padawans to the front even in my time. And not always accompanied- despite being easy targets for any aspiring Lord who didn't want to wait for the Academy to produce a new apprentice.
