What are your opinions on secrets?
What about knowledge of others you have due to the world/universe/dimension you are from?

On the other hand, keeping secrets - of the future, in particular - allows for a good man to keep on living, to keep a shred of hope which I know he will lose when he knows the truth.
Secrets are dangerous. But not uniformly bad.

Perhaps it is a matter of what the secret is, as you said. If it were to cause unneeded pain, then it would be better to keep it, wouldn't it?

That is ... true, up to a point. But there is also the consideration that the secret may be learned from another source, and then having kept it might be seen as another source of betrayal.
It is a dangerous path to tread, though sometimes inevitable.
