What are your opinions on secrets?

What about knowledge of others you have due to the world/universe/dimension you are from?

Because of secrets, I was turned into instrumental to the murder of someone dear to me.

And then into even more instrumental to the murder of the murderer.

On the other hand, keeping secrets - of the future, in particular - allows for a good man to keep on living, to keep a shred of hope which I know he will lose when he knows the truth.

Secrets are dangerous. But not uniformly bad.

Perhaps it is a matter of what the secret is, as you said. If it were to cause unneeded pain, then it would be better to keep it, wouldn't it?

Thank you. It is... not something I would wish on anyone.

That is ... true, up to a point. But there is also the consideration that the secret may be learned from another source, and then having kept it might be seen as another source of betrayal.

It is a dangerous path to tread, though sometimes inevitable.

I... I guess it would depend on what the purpose is of keeping it. What are the consequences of speaking it out loud? Is it something that affects only you or has wider implications?

Personally? Not well. Due to the secret? Too well. So, you are right about this not being a general sort of discussion.

Is there something wrong in letting the person speak for themselves rather than the secret? If you're forming a judgement from that it might not be wholly accurate.

Sometimes, yeah. I've always thought that the more knowledge people had, the better. But lately, I've been seeing a lot of evidence to support the contrary.

It depends on the person, but sometimes ignorance really is bliss. Not everyone is prepared to know everything. [ he knows that from experience, as he actively avoids knowing about things too much ]

Depends. Secrets can keep people safe, protecting them against those who would take advantage or harm them.

As far as if you have knowledge of others... best kept to one's self and not revealed as much as possible.

Yeah. I am getting that same kind of conclusion from what everyone else has said. Especially since this knowledge could have negative repercussions and it's not like anything can be done about the specific situations here.

Yep. As much as one might want to tell people, or talk to them about things, as most do not remember this place anyway when they go home, it renders much of that moot.

Sometimes some secrets are better left as secrets. Once they're revealed, you can't take them back. They're secrets for a reason. An entire person's life and thought process can be changed overnight when a secret is let out.

Yeah, that is what I am worried about. I was lucky in one case but ... if I could have controlled it a bit more, I think it would have gone better.

But I never thought much about how they could be used to hurt someone until recently.

Yeah. That is a major consideration as well, besides what others have brought up: such as if the would want to know or if keeping the secret would prevent problems.
