Good morning/afternoon/evening,

I'm afraid my introduction is long overdue. My name is Dr. Gray, and I arrived in this fair city several weeks ago, although I have to say it's taken that long to really get a handle on my bearings. I've spoken to some of you already, but I thought it was about time I wrote a formal greeting and offered my expertise on a far wider scale.

I've introduced myself as a neurologist and a renowned figure in the sphere of genetically enhanced abilities - at least where my own world is concerned - but my skillset happens to run a little deeper than that. My own ability, such as it is, allows me to see how other people's powers work. What that means is if there's something funky going on with your ability, or you'd like a little help working out how to control something new, I'm the person to call. I'd be more than willing to offer my assistance, actually, because this new world allows me to tap back into my research on the most basic level, this time without the need for the subterfuge imposed on me formerly by the government. It's a world of exciting possibilities! This is what every scientist dreams of being able to do: study what they love and make a difference to real people.

I'm a little camera shy, I'm afraid, but I'd be more than willing to discuss your situation in person. Over coffee and a demonstration, perhaps.

P.S. As I understand it there's some sort of school being formed to do much the same thing. I'd be very grateful for any further information that's available on the subject.

[ .... The thing is, Peter probably would've been fooled. Probably. He's not trying to pick Sylar out of a crowd just for fun nor is he looking for him to show up here; there just isn't a reason to assume that Sylar is around every corner. Peter has other things to worry about, Sylar hasn't even really been in the equation for a short while. Not to mention, his own appearance is enough, but anyone else from back home? That just makes things that much weirder - not helped by all the frustrating face twins.

If only he could be so lucky.

Being intimately acquainted with Sylar's ability makes this glaringly obvious a little ways in and Peter.... has to refrain himself from flipping a proverbial table the second it becomes abundantly clear that Sylar has arrived. This is not good, it's not even a little bit all right, and now Peter has to figure out what to do in the face of a serial killer in their midst. In a word full of abilities. Great. Awesome. Wonderful. Instantly concerned, Peter's even more pissed off than that. As if it's Sylar's fault that he's here; who the hell else is he gonna blame? ]

[ Aww Peter, you made this conversation private just for him. He's touched, really he is, but it begs the question: if he's lost all of his own powers, is it possible that Peter has too? It's one possible reason why he might be this timid.

Either way, timid serves him well for now.

It is, but at the very least it's a transparent proposal. I've seen the worst that can happen when that isn't the case. Government scrutiny, civilian abduction--it isn't pretty.

That's correct. It applies to more than just powers, but it's the function I've found to be the most useful.

Of course. Neurology's less well respected sibling. Not that I feel that way about the profession myself.

It is, quite useful. Are you practicing here in the city?

so. theres a limit on my powers that means i cant do a thing that im pretty sure i should be able to. do you think youd be able to tell me why that is?

I think it's possible that I might be able to help, but it's precisely the kind of thing I won't know until I experience it. It may be that my inexperience with how the Porter work limits my perception somehow.

[The claims that this man made were worth looking into, if not trusted. While Dr Gray's claims that he was camera shy might be true, that does cast suspicion on the motives of a man who seems so willing to meet with imPorts in order to help them gain better control.

Alfred's own abilities aren't necessarily out of control, but he has been working on fine tuning them - creating an awareness so that they don't unintentionally activate without him wanting them to. That is still something of an issue, so nothing should be suspicious if Alfred were to meet with this doctor and the man could indeed do as he claimed.]

I'm fortunate enough to have been gifted with several abilities by the Porter. However, I must admit that my control over them isn't quite where I would like it to be. Is there a possibility that I might ask your assistance in this matter, Dr Gray?

[ It's a legitimate fear, okay. Not wanting to appear on film. And okay, he'd manipulate the excuse for his own purposes, play it straight down a Freudian adversity, but an excuse is an excuse. ]

There is absolutely the possibility of our meeting to discuss it further. I don't suppose you can tell me anything else about your problems in advance?

It's a calling. I can't pretend my reasons for wanting to unlock the secrets of our abilities isn't selfish. It's my life's work.

Not particularly interested in learning improve using my powers. Or to use them at all. Mostly curious about how you've encountered this sort of thing before and how it's compared to what things are like here. Seems like there'd be a difference between genetically enchanted abilites and. whatever is done to us here to give us "superpowers".

Not everyone's abilities here seem to be the result of genetic mutation. Truly I couldn't tell you what the Porter did to grant these powers to people who didn't have them before--it's something I can only hope to discover with further research.

That said, I come from a world where abilities have been developing by random mutation worldwide, with increasing frequency. There, at least, there's a predisposition for the gene to pass down from parents to their children.

I'm afraid we haven't been allowed enough freedom to make the time zone distinction necessary. But how considerate of you to think of it, regardless.

Since I couldn't be sure when my recipients might choose to review the network, I thought it covered all my bases. Besides which I haven't a great deal of experience with this sort of thing. The Internet is for people with much more time on their hands, generally speaking.

A doctor for powers? That's helpful, I guess. What kind of work did you do, if you don't mind me asking? We had people who did that kind of thing back home, but... none of them seemed to have the kind of expertise that you would, with that kind of ability.

After my initial studies in the field, I worked for the government, although my developing skills allowed me to lean more toward procurement than genetic research. I didn't agree with their methods, so I'm afraid after a while I quit. Differences in morality.

[ so much about this message makes thomas's skin want to crawl - neurology, government, close study, and an avid scientist with exciting possibilities. he hasn't come from a great place, and adults in general he's not fond of either, but the fact is also that thomas needs to figure out how to use what he has. that, and, he wants to know more about how these powers got there in the firsts place. he's at least interested in learning more, though if he'll take the offer is still completely up in the air, on the side of unlikely. ]

Study how? What do you do to see how the ability works? What's the demonstration?

It depends on the ability. I like to watch people do what they're comfortable trying. Even sometimes the effort alone is more than enough. But at home of course there was no forewarning; abilities were spontaneous, and the skill to use them was immensely varied.
