[ kanaya's in the garage again, but the door's open, sunlight pouring through it. she's in a green tank and black leggings, a bandanna tying back her hair, various paint splotches on her arms hinting at what she's busying herself with today. on her workbench is a brush and easel, all of the colors monochrome and drab.

unlike her previous addresses, she's already put out her cigarette rather than in the middle of it. that should cut down on unwanted lectures. though the content of her message may bring them in an entirely different form. ]

You see, this is something I will never quite understand. Here we are, sitting at the brink of war, and all anyone can talk about is voting rights. Very typically American of you. [ not that some of the people loudest about it are even american. but america, democracy, she tends to conflate the two. ] The question shouldn't be why unsettled imPorts can't vote, but why can the registered? I am a registered imPort, but I'm not an American citizen, I'm not even a citizen of Earth! Merely a resident.

Think about this, we are temporary immigrants to this world. When more permanent refugees come to live here on escaping their native lands, they have long, complicated processes to undergo before they are allowed the benefits of citizenry. Should any of us be given better treatment of those? Should I be allowed to make decisions that may affect this nation's future when these are not allowed it, when I may not even be here to experience the full consequences of those decisions? I don't think I should, neither do I think any of you should. Wherever you have come from, we are all of us aliens to this world. That isn't something we should be forgetting. You should get used to the fact that you don't belong, like some of us have always known.

I'd much rather our attention be directed to the blockade threatening Alaska. The rest of this is little more than a distraction.

But if distraction is what you're after, as the world must continue should it not abruptly end, we are all aware of the season upon us. Ghastly ghouls are all about these days. So, should we not have all died by the time Halloween is upon us, perhaps you might join us monsters at the Devil's Nest in Maurtia Falls to celebrate.

[ she gets up to move the camera, and it shifts as she holds it, spinning around to face the wall. stretched out across it is a massive sheet of paper, painted simply in grey brick, only half dingy. she's still detailing. on the floor are a few paint cans and rollers. ]

I'm working on the decor now.

Drinks are 10% off, should you arrive in costume, and there will be a drinking contest with a $100 prize, for those who pay the $10 entry fee. But just imagine how much you may potentially get from that $10, even if you shouldn't win!

[ she turns the camera back around, in a sort of awkward selfie angle. ] Our hours will be 3pm to 6am, so come early and stay all night, as you please. We hope to see you there on the 31st.

All right. [A nod. And he starts to head out, now, to get his supplies.] Thank you.

[ she shrugs, taking his thanks as for her potential forgiveness. ]

Well, sometimes we just need to be the bigger person. [ and make snide passive-aggressive remarks about how much bigger she's being how is that bigger of you kanaya. ]

I don't see what that has to do with anything.

[A very blank look. He sees your passive-aggressive remarks, Kanaya. And he will just kinda let them sit there.]

Your second chance. What else would you have to thank me for?

[Okay, she has a point.]

I'll have it done in about a day.

[ kanaya's turn her comm facedown and left it on the work table, it chimes every now and then, but she ignores it. her break is over, and it's time to get to work again.

she's squatted down in front of the canvas with her palette on the floor nearby, touching up the bricks at the bottom with a mossy green. they need just the right amount of dinge. after a moment, she puts down the brush and shines a blacklight over the canvas, just to make sure her moss is glowing the way she wants it to. ]

[He arrives with bags full of paints and brushes and other tools of the trade. He looks- well, neutral, perhaps a bit at a loss.

He doesn't really know her name.

So he just enters the garage and sets his bags down somewhere free before peering at her work, quiet.]

[ she clicks off the blacklight and looks up at him, her eyes narrowing at his bags as she rises to her feet. ]

I don't know any of that will be necessary. I'm working specifically with blacklight paints.

It's Haruka, isn't it? [ at least one of them knows how to read names off the network. ]

[He can't say he's ever worked with those before, but he's intrigued. Also wow don't judge him. He's lucky the tattoos can access the communicators remotely or he'd never use the thing.]

Yes.

[He walks up to her work, inspecting the details to see if he can mimic it.]

[ she steps back so he can get a better look, gesturing to the canvas and the roll of paper in the corner. ]

As you can see, I'm laying down a simple base prior to the detail work. We'll have a great deal more to do, if we're to have the whole establishment covered.

How big is this place? Will it require a special paintbrush? [He's got some big ones, but he must admit he's never worked with this particular kind of paint before.]

Well, as you can see, this one's about ten feet high and the same in length. It won't cover the wall, but there are doors and the bar to work around, so I plan on doing it in sections.

The biggest wall in the main room is about thirty-five feet, and then we have a back hall that will be similarly decorated, about twenty feet by six. But you won't have to worry about special brushes, I've been laying down the base with a roller.

[Wow okay that sounds like a lot to do. But Haru is determined! He's got his game face on.]

All right. Then let's get going.

[ she pulls out a another section paper from roll and cuts it off in an exact straight line with a box cutter. ]

How are you with details? [ she picks up a roller in one hand, and a small brush. your choice, haru. ]

[He takes the small brush.]

Fine enough.

[He prefers to have smaller things to focus on.]

[ she slides a tray and her paint cans over to the new section, laying it flat across to concrete. ]

Remember, aside from granite texture, the key things to focus on will be moss and dinge. Make it as much a dungeon as possible.

Don't worry about spiders and things, I have cotton batting I'll be stretching across them and the ceilings.

[He dips his brush into the paint and begins to work, the flick of his wrist quick and precise as he concentrates on the task at hand.

He nods at her instructions, completely lost, now.]

[ and he'll just start rolling her greys across her fresh sheet, looking over his work ever now and then, like a scrutinizing buzzard circling overhead.

hopefully he won't be too lost. ]

[Oh my god, Kanaya, he wasn't lying when he said he could do this, and he can do it well. Though, it's understandable she would mistrust him after their first, ah. Delightful meeting.]

[ but still, she watches him all the same.her work is a reflection of her, and an untested workman must be monitored. though it's possible that, by the end of it, she will find a sort of respect for him.

and thusly, they paint off into the sunset. ]
