[It had taken him a few tries to get his video to work without the awkward shuffling of trying to get himself properly in frame or the audio cutting in abruptly as he mistimed the start of the recording (it looked like a iPhone, but it certainly didn't act like one). But he finally manages, a smiling face--albeit a little strained--greeting the camera.]

Hello everyone. Well...uh, my name is Makoto Tachibana and I am new here it seems. I don't exactly understand what is going on and [There's a pause, and Makoto can be seen wringing his wrist a bit.] I was told that if I wanted to know more, or get a real feel of what my purpose for being here is that the communicators were the best place to start. I wish I could be a little more specific with what I need help with, but everything has been confusing so I don't really know where to even begin. So...sorry about that.

[The smile twists into an embarrassed grimace, and a strained chuckle huffs from his lungs.]

Also...if anyone could direct me to a hardware shop in the city...uh, I would really appreciate that as well! I'm in Residence...026, if that helps. Thank you again.

[He had already broken two doorknobs and one of the drawers to his dresser, and it would be nice to maybe fix them before his apparent roommates came home. Or at least he was pretty sure other people were living here with him as well.]

[Well, it is very much at home to see Rei talking so...passionately like he usually does, but he has a feeling if he lets Rei get too far ahead of himself then he's just going to end up more lost than he ever was.

Lost and out of many hours of this day to fix his doorknobs. But he smiles anyways and tries to follow along, adding in enough comments to keep Rei on track.]

History is different too? I wonder how that could be? I thought we were just in some weird part of the country, but if the whole world is different...that's a lot to take in.

[He rubs at his wrists again--the tattoos weren't painful or noticeable, but just knowing they were there made his skin feel itchy.]

We're in a different dimension, Makoto-senpai. [His voice gets a little melancholy.] Our Japan doesn't exist. I tried getting a call through to my home phone but it was for a store instead of my parents.

[But no use getting sad about it when it can't change. Rei shakes his head and gets cheerful again.]

We have time to catch up. Maybe in person would be better than over these things.

[It takes a moment for that information to really set in with Makoto. And when it does--his look becomes a bit wistful, smile falling just a bit.]

Well, I guess that would make more sense if we weren't in the same world. But it's...

[Kinda...upsetting? What about his family?

He tries to push back that, smile brightening a bit. It was going to be hard to take in an accept that he wouldn't be seeing his family for a while.]

We should catch up. You must have seen a lot of things while you've been here.

[Rei understands how Makoto feels, but at least they've got each other now. It could be worse. Even if he'd like to go back sooner rather than later.]

I'd like to.

[He glances at the rest of the replies Makoto's gotten so far, and sees that he already has a ping from one Haruka Nanase. Smiling a little more widely, his eyes return to Makoto.]

Maybe later tonight? I have a feeling Haruka-senpai is going to be coming to visit you as soon as possible.

[Makoto had just started to notice the other messages, and the smile on his face had softened at the sight of Haru on the list. It was a relief to see him, to just have so many familiar faces to welcome into this unfamiliar world.]

I must've been gone for a while if you're that certain about it.

[Makoto couldn't think of a time that he and Haru had been apart for more than week at a time. If Rei had been here a while, it was possible that Haru had been too.]

I hope he hasn't caused too much trouble for you! [Makoto laughs ~~if only he knew~~] I'll have to catch up with him so he doesn't worry. But we should plan for later tonight! Do you have a particular place in mind we should meet? I haven't really gotten out to explore yet, so I can't guarantee you I wont get lost.

Oh, no, he wasn't trouble at all! [Besides the stress baking incident and jumping in Kanaya's pool...] We were able to help each other. It was better than being here alone.

[He doesn't really want to go back to that.]

As for places to meet... I guess you could just come to the house. We live in residence 34. I can make dinner.

[He's going to suggest the house because he guesses Haruka will be hovering around him until forced to stop.]

[Makoto smiles warmly--at least he didn't have to feel too guilty about Haru being here before him if Rei was around to keep him company.]

I'm glad you guys could lean on each other in the beginning. I hope I don't throw too much of a wrench in things with all my confusion about this place.

[He laughs, shaking his head slightly. He was sure he would understand eventually...especially if he had friends to help him out.]

But dinner sounds great! Oh wait--you and Haru live together then?

Everybody's confused in the beginning, Makoto-senpai. [So chill bro.

He nods in response to Makoto's question.] Yes, since recently. One of my other housemates was ported home [At least that's what Rei hopes happened-] so he took the room.

[There's clear relief on his face, a soft smile brightening his features. It was reassuring to hear that Haru had a friendly presence nearby, knowing how...stunted his socials skill could be.]

That's great. I'm really happy for you two, I'm sure it's nice to have a friendly face readily available to talk to. I think Haru is planning on coming over, but I can't wait to see you soon.

[Yeah, haha... he hasn't done the best. Not that Rei is always the best either.]

I can't wait to see you either, Makoto-senpai. Goodbye for now!

[It's not too late after their call has ended that Makoto ends up on Rei's doorstep. A quick text is sent before they arrive, informing:]

I'm coming over with Haru after we drop some stuff off at my place!

[and not long after, they do arrive. Haru had led him to their house and let him inside, but he still feels odd just walking in. An arm is crossed over himself, gripping the other as he looks around. The apartments in general seem pretty similar.]

[And Rei shows up a moment later, holding a duster. He greets Haru before turning his attention to Makoto, giving him a wide smile.]

It's been awhile, senpai.

[Well, from Rei's perspective, anyway.

He gestures at the kitchen with the hand holding the duster.]

I made tea, if you want any.

Rei!

[Makoto visibly eases up as Rei comes out to meet him, feeling less like an intruder with more friends around. He walks closer to Rei, arm dropping from it's guarding position to better great his friend.]

I guess it has! Weird how this time thing works. But I'm still glad to see you.

[Another smile, shaking his head as if to clear his mind of the more confusing aspects of this place (as if there was anything that was NOT confusing).]

I would love some tea. Have you been busy cleaning?

[Nods to the duster.]

Yes, I was trying to straighten up a little...

[He's become housewife Rei, basically.

He guides Makoto into the kitchen, gets the tea ready.]

I've been here since August, actually, or what was August here. It was just before the prefectural tournament, on our side. I know it's confusing.

[He could start talking about time travel theory and grandfather paradoxes and all kinds of other fun stuff, but he refrains.]

But Haruka-senpai is from further along and verified that I arrived home safely, for the timeline to continue as it did. In theory, there's nothing to worry about.

[Sits at the table.]

[It seemed like Rei had adjusted to this place just fine, by the way he was talking, and this only keeps the easy smile on his face. He follows Rei, sitting down at the table while they other worked on getting ready.]

Haru said something like that. I'm from...farther along the timeline [What a weird way to say it.] than he is, so I guess things work out for him too?

[If he was picking up what Rei was implying that is--that if they continued on in their world after they had initially arrived here, then they must have returned fine and continued on like normal?

...still confusing, and arose many questions, but he kept them in for now. He had spent too much time asking questions and not enough time enjoying the company of friends.]

Well, at least it's relieving to hear that we will probably return home after...some point. If none of us remember the others mysteriously disappearing?

That seems to be what it means. I'm inclined to believe it, even if it's confusing.

[He smiles.] It's good to hear that Haruka-senpai returns, too. Then I'm sure you will, and we'll all be okay, in the end.

[He just wishes he knew how soon "the end" would be.]

Like I said, it's usually not so bad living here, if you're careful. A lot like back home, really. Other than being in America.

[And the flying cars and the superpowers...]

Ah, but, I'm here to answer your questions, if you have any.

[So really, the only one not 100% confirmed to return is Makoto himself. But he doesn't even think to be worried about his own status at the moment. Most importantly, Haru and Rei come out of this safely. If his friends return then he's sure everything will turn out fine.]

Yeah, I guess there's nothing really to worry about for now. Besides adjusting, which I need to catch up on. I've never been out of the country, so it's already enough culture shock...

[It was one thing to learn about American homes and traditions in books and movies, and another to suddenly find yourself forcibly "studying abroad".]

I'm honestly still very confused with...almost anything. How everything works, what's expected of us, jobs and school...

[Makoto trails off again, chewing at his lip. It was just so much information at once that it was hard to know where to begin. It's only a moment before he chuckles, a bit bashful.]

Ah, but that's a lot of information to ask at once, and it's not really helpful to give you any place to begin, is it. Uh, if it's not too prying...could I ask what your powers are, to start with?

[That wasn't really the question Rei was expecting, but it's not like he minds Makoto knowing.]

Ah, those... Well, one of them is super speed. It was hard to get used to that one, but it's better now. Before then I broke a few lamps and things.

[A reassuring smile, since it seems like Makoto is going through similar trials with his own super strength.]

And the other one is that I have butterfly wings! They only appear when I want them to, though. Well, usually.

[Makoto's brows raise, a temporary look of surprise at the mention of Rei's accidental destruction when learning his powers. But it's quick to turn into a grin of relief that there was a way that he could learn to control all this new power.

With a little time of course.]

Your powers suit you! I would love to see the wings sometimes, if it's not a hassle...getting them out?

[Another wide smile, and he can only imagine Rei preening over a pair of beautiful and extravagant wings.]

My powers are still taking a bit to get used to, but I guess it makes sense being the first day and all...

Yes, everyone has trouble on the first day I think. But getting control is possible.

[He does get up from his chair a bit too eagerly, grinning and adjusting his glasses.]

Ah, but I can show you my wings, if you'd like to see them! It's not a hassle, I've gotten much better at it.

[He starts to pull on his shirt, because he has to take that off to do it.]
