WILL YOU HELP SAVE THE WORLD?

Mask or Menace is a panfandom urban 'superhero' genre DWRP game, where heroes, villains, and everyone in between seek to survive and thrive in a world loosely parallel to our own.

[Jane begins the video facing the screen, with her fingertips pressed lightly together. In the background, muffled and distant, is the sound of the boy currently in her care, playing with his dog.]

I have a question.

[Each word is carefully enunciated, and a far cry from the uncertainty of her first post to this network. A small frown is just visible between her eyebrows.]

And, please do pardon me if I overlooked something in orientation when I arrived, I am certainly open to being told if I did... but am I correct in understanding that young children - imPorts, specifically - are simply being left, alone, to care for themselves here, save for the lucky chance that someone might take them in?

[Her lips press together. The calm is a facade.]

And this is acceptable?

[She really wants someone to tell her she's mistaken.]

[ Hello, Network. There's a face few have seen before - even though he's been around a few months, now, he's never done a direct post to the network. It just ain't his style. He's hardly Holden, after all. If he were, then you'd probably all have already seen an impassioned speech about the injustice inflicted on imPorts - yada, yada.

Instead, you get this fella, with his beard neatly trimmed and his hair slicked back, smiling a little awkwardly at the camera. ]

Howdy, ya'll.

[ The Texan drawl is thick, and it's hard to tell how affected it is. He certainly doesn't seem to be concerned by it. ]

So, uh, guess I better properly introduce myself, now that... well, now that it's just myself. My name's Alex Kamal, recently of the Rocinante, and most lately of... well, Earth, I guess. But that ain't why I'm here.

See, while I've been acclimatin' myself to the big blue ball, I've run into enough people to get a good sense that Mars don't always mean a hell of a lot, to you folks. Most of you know it as a dead, dusty orb floatin' so far off as to not affect you at all. Which, I mean, given the year here, that ain't all that surprisin', is it?

But it isn't the case for all of ya, so I figured I should put a more formal inquiry out into the either, like.

Can ya'll tell me what's happenin' to Mars back where you come from?

If there are people livin' there at all, or if there ever were?

Sorry if this is a weird question.

Other than that, if you, ah, have any good recipes for - well, hell, anythin', you just let me know.

Hello, my lovely temporal refugees!

Quick question:

Does anybody know if we've actually answered the question of whether Porters are actually porting us or if we're actually dying each time and being re-assembled as an entirely new being on the other side? You know, basic teleportation existential question.

Also I would officially like to register a complaint that these random cold spots are bullshit and I was not made for the Arctic, thank you. What, do you expect me to morph winter coats? Normal clothes are hard enough, geez.

Oh, and for those of you who don't know: I'm Marco, I'm a shapeshifter, I'm awesome blah blah blah you get the picture.

Private to Peter Parker:

So I was just gonna ask if you were okay or good with whatever was going on with Mysterio-

[ Marco emphasizes the name because come on, a grown man calling themselves Mysterio is just sort of inherently ridiculous. At least Marco came up with the term 'Animorph' as a thirteen year old.]

But now I sort of want to know more of what's up with him, if that's cool, he's kind of starting to creep me out a bit. Just basic genre savvy rule: Anybody saying they want power so 'people will listen' gets my-

[ He stops. ]

Huh, I was gonna say 'Spidey-sense up' but that metaphor doesn't really work when talking to you, does it?

Anyway, sort of creepy, I don't know.

And if you can't or don't want to tell me, that's cool. I get it: Some information is sensitive and not my business. I won't bug you about it.

Private to Peter Parker, Tim Drake, Barbara Gordon, David Alleyne, and Bart Allen ]:

And the most important question for last:

[ He gives everybody a cheesy grin. ]

LAN party?

[ He points to the screen. ]

Yes?

Obviously. Who's in? I know Tim is, but two people is a sad LAN party.

[ It's traditional, when asking simple, broad questions to the Network to do so in a text post but that's not nearly melodramatic enough for the Outsider.

He's in the desert in the outskirts of Jeopardy, night has fallen and he's looking not at the communicator but up at the stars. There's some faeries nearby he's bribed to leave him alone with pizza, but they make it cold enough you can see his breath glittering on the air.
]

The places you come from are varied, where even the things that you take for granted may be different here, or for other imPorts. Even this reality is changing week to week.

With that in mind, I have a question for you.

[ Now he turns to look at the comm, eyes empty and black. He tilts his head. ]

What do you think makes a god a god?

(( And regular reminder that if you respond with video, you are completely free to include a vision for him to see if you want! ))
