three. video. id: the Outsider. later tonight.
[ It's traditional, when asking simple, broad questions to the Network to do so in a text post but that's not nearly melodramatic enough for the Outsider.
He's in the desert in the outskirts of Jeopardy, night has fallen and he's looking not at the communicator but up at the stars. There's some faeries nearby he's bribed to leave him alone with pizza, but they make it cold enough you can see his breath glittering on the air. ]
The places you come from are varied, where even the things that you take for granted may be different here, or for other imPorts. Even this reality is changing week to week.
With that in mind, I have a question for you.
[ Now he turns to look at the comm, eyes empty and black. He tilts his head. ]
What do you think makes a god a god?
(( And regular reminder that if you respond with video, you are completely free to include a vision for him to see if you want! ))

There's no such thing. Beings are just beings, no matter what they look like or what they're capable of. Thinking of anybody or anything as a god creates an unearned and illogical power structure without basis in reality.

To you its simply a title, and one that cannot be earned.
Are you going to claim that is true across all the worlds, or just where you come from?

Their devoted and their adversaries. It is an external title, rather than one that can be forced or denied by desire alone.

Either way, by your definition one doesn't choose to be a god.
But is it solely a matter of the faith of others?

When people begin to worship a being, if you go by a religious definition, I guess. A being with miraculous powers?
But that's too broad. Many imPorts have that kind of ability.

Though there are many things that make a god. What makes a god for you?
audio;
Where I come from, belief is irrelevant. As long as there is a god in the Void, then a god they are. Even if every cult and relgion passes from memory, the believers' bones rotting away.

I'm going to give you a simple answer. Power.

[Small talk is always dull. ]
Simply power? I suppose that depends on what kind of power, and how much.

[His people, for starters. Or parts of his people. What little education he's had from the native parts of his family has been scattered and corrupted, to the point that even Carter knows there are pieces missing, something he feels a little sad about when he thinks about it too hard.]

The Bible -- that is one of the holy texts of the religion here.

Gods become gods because someone thought they were powerful enough to be called one, I'd guess. It's an otherworldly kind of thing people put on someone else or some idea that have.

Apollo looks up, pressing his lips together: ] I mean, you could say power and immortality, but that's not really what keeps a god alive.
no subject
The idea that a god requires belief to function is a common thread. You're the first to mention immortality. Do you mean unaging and eternal, or do you mean they're unable to be killed?
