Hey all. Quick PSA:

Over at StarkTech there's a team of us that are working on a solution to some of the weird ~memory shenanigans~ that you might have seen around lately. We're no closer to a cure, but I'm pretty sure we HAVE now successfully got a working prototype for a "vaccine" of sorts. Basically we've figured out how to upgrade the imPort nanites to protect anyone else from getting false memories implanted in their head and believing that they're real.

If you want to swing by StarkTech any time this week, we'll be happy to fix you up. Free lollipop for people who come in, and it doesn't take any time at all. You can pop in over a lunch break.

The project's being headed by Jemma Simmons, Hiro Hamada, and me-- hi, I'm Skye, if we haven't met before. We'll be rotating different shifts, so you might not see all of us, but one of us will be around.

[Kick off for the memory sharing plot! Again, you don't have to have commented to this post to participate. Feel free to assume your character went in and saw one of them, or if you aren't comfortable handwaving having met one of them off screen, you can always say a random faceless lab-tech saw to you instead! Feel free to comment in here if you feel your character would though, or if they have questions, and network threads can always transition to action threads if you feel like playing it out. Yeah, the post-death thing is just a whole new level of screwed up I don't even want to think about.

Anyway, I'll have a crack at it, but progress will probably be slow. I mean-- first of all, someone has to go and then come back for me to even be able to tell if it's worked or not. And these things usually take several rounds of testing before you hit upon the right solution.

and in that time i would serve as a plain example of the depth of what changes lachesis makes to us on entry

I don't know. That kind of begs the question, doesn't it? Of whether our bodies here are even our real bodies?

What if they're like... living flesh with transmitted consciousness? Like in that episode of Doctor Who.

as long as you understand
not all theories are created equally
having a theory doesnt mean its going to be worth considering
but better that you have that one set straight sooner than later

I think it's an interesting theory, Skye. Though I don't know what Doctor Who is - it's not showing up when I run an internet search on it. Do you have more details on how it worked there?

It's just a science-fiction adventure TV show, Kitty. I doubt the writers had exact science in mind when they wrote it, I was just using it as an example. It's been ages since I watched it, I don't know that I could be more specific. They grew these flesh bodies that were just bodies without a consciousness or brain in them, but they needed them to do really dangerous work. So the workers would lie down dormant somewhere safe, with a machine that transferred their consciousness from their real body into the flesh body.

That's an interesting thought...And COMPLETELY creepy, ugh. It would explain how we're able to come back to life while normal people can't, wouldn't it? Our bodies (such as they are) get repaired, and our minds are re-implanted. Or something like it. But there's still the fact of our memories getting altered like they do when we go home, right?

This is way beyond my field of knowledge and already into speculative fiction to be honest, Kitty. Maybe there just isn't enough time? Maybe it's a glitch? I mean, given the fact that we seem to age here but then haven't aged at all when we go home, the two bodies theory has some weight to it, but... beyond that, I couldn't tell you.

Sometimes it seems as though it would be easier to just throw up my hands and go, "All right, I'm mad, that's all there is for it."

That would just be too easy, though.

And...I don't know. I don't want to say less fun, exactly, because this is certainly not FUN. But it's an interesting sort of mystery, isn't it?

Put it this way: it's one of those mysteries to which I really want the answer and yet also simultaneously don't.

Really? I don't know. I don't think there's any part of me that doesn't want to know. But...to be fair, I also think this is more neat and exciting than anything else, while some people have really been sort of traumatized by being brought here.

Let me just say, I've read enough weird sci-fi to know that the answer might be too freaky to contemplate.
