Hey all. Quick PSA:
Over at StarkTech there's a team of us that are working on a solution to some of the weird ~memory shenanigans~ that you might have seen around lately. We're no closer to a cure, but I'm pretty sure we HAVE now successfully got a working prototype for a "vaccine" of sorts. Basically we've figured out how to upgrade the imPort nanites to protect anyone else from getting false memories implanted in their head and believing that they're real.
If you want to swing by StarkTech any time this week, we'll be happy to fix you up. Free lollipop for people who come in, and it doesn't take any time at all. You can pop in over a lunch break.
The project's being headed by Jemma Simmons, Hiro Hamada, and me-- hi, I'm Skye, if we haven't met before. We'll be rotating different shifts, so you might not see all of us, but one of us will be around.
[Kick off for the memory sharing plot! Again, you don't have to have commented to this post to participate. Feel free to assume your character went in and saw one of them, or if you aren't comfortable handwaving having met one of them off screen, you can always say a random faceless lab-tech saw to you instead! Feel free to comment in here if you feel your character would though, or if they have questions, and network threads can always transition to action threads if you feel like playing it out. Skye, Hiro and Jemma will be out and about in places. Peace out!]

[ Not graduating the academy, that is. Natasha flew through as a result of having the training already, wrongfully applied, but she still did catch-up on SHIELD policy, law, and procedure. ]

[Something she might have been proud of once, a year ago-- hacking Big Brother is no easy feat, after all. But now it's become a point of insecurity, and it shows in her body language. She knows the rest of her team believe she's more than earned her place at their sides, as much as anyone who's been through the academy, and that helps. A lot.
But it'll be a while still before she feels like she can measure up to the things everyone else has done.]

[ A nod of understanding. Natasha obscures her smile by pressing her lips together. ]
Someone took a chance on me once, too. I still haven't decided if he made the right call.

[Well, at first she was just using them, but... she's not about to say that.]
Was that... Fury?

... See, that's why I decided to join SHIELD. I mean-- properly. Not because of, I don't know, "the greater good" or whatever. Although that's important too and all, but-- the people.
HYDRA crap aside... they've got some good people.

[ Which is an agreement, in and of itself. SHIELD handles things differently. At times, it doesn't jive with Natasha's methods. But it's also the first time she was ever looked at like a person instead of a weapon. That much, she still owes them for. ]
I was lucky that I encountered the SHIELD team I did. Not everyone gets that. Some stay on the wrong side of the fence.

We're lucky to have you.

[ It only just now occurs to her to make the correction. ]
I'm not interested in rejoining SHIELD, Skye. My loyalties were with Fury. I've been serving one organization or another my entire life: it's time I tried something new.

[Not dead, she's about to say. But then she realizes she isn't sure if she's allowed to say that. Does she know that? Surely she knows that. She's Black Widow for crying out loud.]

[ Her words are chosen carefully, preempting any chance for Skye to leak that particular secret by establishing something that could well be a result of his death. ]
Exactly.

[ Natasha has feelings about what good guys are capable of, but this isn't the audience or the time. Besides, Steve's made himself an exception. Maybe her cynicism is overly harsh, in certain aspects. ]
It's not about Coulson. If he needs back-up, he knows how to get in touch with me.

We're like-- living in an underground bunker and I don't think there's more than thirty of us around the entire planet, and my team's second specialist turned out to be HYDRA so now it's just me and Agent May and I just joined six months ago if you don't factor in the time I've spent here and there's no way I'm cut out to be a full-on field agent yet most people go through like three years of training and I'm a computer hacker. I'd never even seen the inside of a gym before I signed up for this ride on the crazy train!

[ There are few people that Natasha holds in such high esteem. ]
If Coulson reaches out, I'll answer. But he hasn't yet. The dust is still settling. You might be surprised just how many of us know how to go underground; given the government's interest in the files I leaked, I don't blame the few loyal agents we had left for making themselves scarce. It's the only way to survive.

[Skye shakes her head.]
Anyway. I guess that's... fair enough. So, what next for Black Widow, then? --Please don't say you're retiring. The Avengers team is already too much of a sausage fest as it is.

ahhh somehow i lost this tag IM SO SORRY
You mean like-- striking out on your own? Are you gonna go no-holds-barred, full-on-superhero on us?
LMAO IT WAS ONLY THREE DAYS you know how long i take sometimes
[ Given her past, Natasha's not certain the title of superhero will ever sit comfortably on her. Privately contracted spy, maybe. Who is contracted by ... herself. It was too easy for her to wind up taking HYDRA's orders when she thought she'd switched sides: it's time she was her own side. ]
It's a long time for me ok
Wow. Watch out world.
true BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO APOLOGIZE REGARDLESS
ilu!!
ily2!!!
[ She'd gone from serving the KGB to serving HYDRA's interests, and even she'd never known it. That was her job: infiltrating. She should have recognized it when she saw it. Better to just take herself out of that game and set up a solo act than to chance that again. ]

... Well. Yes. That, too.
