[ the view of the area behind barry looks like— well it looks like a bench because barry feels like soaking up the fresh air and honestly if these conversations go south, he feels like it might be good to be out in the open where he can run easily without upsetting everything else. see, there's a part of him, a very big part of him that knows asking this is a bad idea. if the reaction oliver had gotten when he just existed was any indication, this is, in fact, a very no good bad idea. one he probably shouldn't indulge himself with and yet here he is totally indulging himself. for science and for his own piece of mind.

So. How many of you recognize the name Barry Allen? [ there's a pause and the world's longest sigh before he says anything else, because he realizes he can't even frame this as him asking for someone else because his id says his name. no this is just barry allen asking how many people recognize just his name. ] I don't— You can tell me how or not, I'm easygoing as far as stories like that go, but consider this a survey with me asking one question. [ ...this was such a bad idea. moving on to equally important stuff. ]

Oh yeah! Before I forget, if you live in residence thirteen in Heropa, hi. I haven't actually gone in there yet but I think I have roommates. I'll be there in a minute, but hi before you actually see me in person. [ "minute", ha. then there's this half pause before: ] And does anyone know what exactly being a crime show fact checker entails? I mean I deal with crime scenes at home so I know what they're supposed to look like! But if I'm going to be checking if some crime is real because it's a true crime show— that's a little different obviously. And a bit exploitative so I might not be as comfortable with that.

Oh man. Ohhh man, oh no, I totally know who he is. I totally know. [Jaime just sort of buries his face in his hands for a second, because it takes the approximate deductive capabilities of a chimp - but not Detective Chimp - to tie together the superhero who's not from any of their worlds with the famous guy who's not from any of their worlds.

He could have found out earlier, but he tries not to. What is it with speedsters and secrets? He just lets that sink in for a moment before raising his eyes to the screen.]

You know I can't pretend that I don't know, right? I mean, I'm not going to tell anyone, because I'm not -- I'm not terrible. [A beat.] And I'm not calling you terrible! I mean, like, terrible on purpose, uh, Mr. Allen.

[He looks a little weirded out at that, because Barry Allen isn't supposed to look this young. He's supposed to be one of the main guys on the Justice League before... stuff happens. They tend to happen with the Flashes.]

But shouldn't he know who knows?

[ Their brains just work faster than their mouths clearly or they just tend to suck at keeping secrets. Both work to be honest. Barry actually starts trying to sink into the bench or at least outside of Jaime's view before he looks up and cringes just a bit. ]

I wasn't— I know you're not calling me terrible. The whole new place is just messing me up a little bit. [ When Jaime asks if Oliver should know who knows— a laugh bubbles up. Barry can't help it but the idea that Oliver should know who knows while completely valid also just makes him laugh. ]

If it was anyone but Oliver, yes. But honestly? He's not— I wouldn't say that it's necessarily the best thing for him to know.

Why not? He's not, um... super friendly, [he says, trying to put it delicately, because A: Jaime Reyes isn't supposed to know the Arrow, and B: he doesn't want to be rude.] But you'd think he still deserves to know who out there knows what his night job is.

[ Let the record show that Barry Allen likes Oliver, really he does. He considers him a friend and generally speaking would defend his honor and maybe engage in fisticuffs to defend said honor— as long as he isn't being an asshole to Felicity. However, Barry also knows that Oliver is an asshole on his good days and considering the guy shot him with an arrow to teach him a lesson about paying attention it's an accurate idea. Of course, Barry isn't the type to tell just say Oliver is an asshole to anyone's face other than Oliver's so all Jaime gets is a look as if to say really. ]

He does! [ He pauses as his face scrunches up. ] But I don't think I'd wish his resulting— intensity on anyone who he knows...knows.

[ Intensity, or how to call someone a paranoid ass without even trying. ]

Well, as long as he's not gonna try and like, lock me up or anything, I think I can handle a little intensity.

[Good luck to anyone trying to lock him up without magic or knowing him well enough to try yanking the Scarab out of his spine, but he's not about to tell Barry that. If Oliver's going to go off on anyone for knowing his secret, then he's not entirely certain that he should be running around shooting arrows at people in the first place.]

Unless you really don't want him to know that you spilled the beans.

[He might do it for you Barry, but he ain't doing it for himself.]

I don't think he'll lock you up. But you're probably right. I just figure that avoiding his intensity is best for most people.

[ Barry pauses and just doesn't say a word for a good thirty seconds. On the one hand, he really doesn't want Oliver to know he spilled the beans. After all, he has a sneaking suspicion that he'll end up with arrows in him again if that happens. On the other hand, it does feel a bit selfish to try and get Jaime to be quiet just so Barry doesn't suffer the consequences. ]

I really don't. It's a long story but the way I found out was weird and I promised not to tell. And I didn't at home but I did just ruin that here just now. [ Breathe. ] It'd be good if he didn't know. Especially since our timelines are a little out of sync. It might be if we were on the same page, but we're not.

[ Shut. Up. Barry. Just stop. ]

[The prospect of not coming clean with Oliver is paining Jaime, and it's probably pretty clear on his face that that's the case. He likes being honest. He likes doing the right thing. This isn't doing the right thing, but...]

Okay, okay, fine, I won't tell him. But... tell me once you guys do get on the same page, and I can let him know then?
