[Winry doesn't sound like herself, if you know her. She sounds...angry.]

My name is Winry Rockbell. I have been infected with the Flare. My healing power isn't working against it. I need to get to the quarantined area.

[There's a crashing sound. Like a wrench cracking against a piece of metal.]

Winry, no... [She couldn't be, not after she healed his hands. But plagues care nothing for who they strike down.]

I will come for you.

The quarantine zone is for the healthy. It's easier that way than trying to corral the sick.

Stay where you are, Rockbell.

W-Winry....the hell I'm worrying about Zoey, you idiot!

[Yeah, he'll take care of the dog. But Zoey isn't what he's worried about right now at hearing this. Winry being infected. He should have figured this possibility when she would want to help. But still. He's not taking this news well. At all.

Which is probably where the sound of his fist hitting the wall comes in. Lets hope that's the auto-mail one and not his flesh hand he's hurting there. Either way. Along with the muttered cursing under his breath.]

Fullmetal. [She's speaking more softly than usual, but with the customary ice and steel behind it.] Keep your head on your shoulders.

Rushing off half-cocked won't do her any good.

But--dammit. It's Winry. I can't just leave her like this.

[Can't begin to think of not rushing out to find her. To do something. Usually it's always Ed that ends up sick or injured. Now it's her, and chances are everyone would literally restrain him from leaving if they had to. For his own good.

Not that he's thinking too clearly on all that when all he hears is Winry's 'I have been infected' playing on repeat.]

Edward Elric.

You can and you will. There's nothing you can do to help her right now except help the team working to find a cure. And you're the only damn alchemist I have who can do what you do to maintain this quarantine. You run off, and you've put the whole damn thing in jeopardy.

All you'll do is get infected yourself. And then who can you help?

[Of course she's aware of Ed's relationship with Winry. At least on the childhood friends part. He's not considering any of what she says to try reason with him. He wants to lash out, to deny it, to not care and just run off. Which he is about to, but the last of what she says sinks in through that fog.]

I have to do something. If she's infected....Hiro and the rest can work on the cure.

[But she's right. He's the alchemist helping maintain the quarantine area, making a dome not dissimilar to the one used to encase Pride and Al back home in some attempt to cordon off an area for them. All he wants is to run to Winry, to be there. Yet he's sure Olivier wouldn't let him. There's another punch at a nearby wall. Another curse of 'dammit'.]

And if there's a breach in the seal that leads to Hamada and the rest, who will repair it?

There is nothing more you can do for her now. Don't be a fool.

[A hint of surprise.] Maedhros? You're immune?

[How is it you're immune and she isn't. No. No. Don't think of that.]

[Bitter, yes. Angry, yes. But still trying for some sort of practicality, here.]

I don't want to give this to my housemates, Major General.

[Stiff and sharp.]

[She's yelling at you, of course.]

And there's nothing you can do to help me right now! Except that. And keep yourself safe.

[He sighs. He had hoped she had stayed clear of the disease.]

Restraints. Very well. And I will bring a mask so you will not have to fear spreading the plague on the way.

I am coming to get her, Edward. You do what you can to stay healthy and keep this disease from spreading. You cannot help her by getting ill yourself.

[She can feel the rage building, after all.]

[About ten minutes later, he's knocking on her door. At least he managed to avoid Ed's traps this time.]

Winry? It is Maedhros.

Calm down, Fullmetal.

[His voice is a little sterner than it might usually be--more like an order than a request.]

Go out and help her, and you'll only put yourself and others in danger. In a situation like this, those who are risk must wait until it dies down or until a cure is administered to the infected. That's all we can do.

[NOT GOOD.]

Exactly how advanced are your symptoms?

I'm sure I'm contagious.

[A bitter, angry laugh.]

There are pustules on my skin.

[Winry opens the door. Her skin is flushed and there are blister-like pustules raising on her arms. Her eyes are red and she twitches, even standing there, like she doesn't recognize him and has to take a few seconds to realize who he is and why he's there. Despite them talking just a little bit before.]

Maedhros.

[Her voice is duller now, but there's a funny timbre to it, a hint of a growl.]

Not--not you, I just....dammit, Winry.

[He hates this. Hates feeling so helpless. Everyone telling him to calm down and stay put isn't helping his frustration either.]

You're hardly the first to tell me that. I just--wish I could do something.

...Tch. Dammit. I don't get any choice but to just stay stuck here while she could be dying.

[He wasn't there when Father's transmutation circle was activated either. And he can't be there for Winry now either. It's always when she needs him the most that he is separated. Can't do anything to help. Let alone ignoring this many people contacting him about Winry like this.]

Yeah. I'm pretty sure the Major General isn't letting me go anywhere. But....thanks. Do what you can for her. I'd go myself but. I've had plenty of people telling me to stay put and I'm pretty sure if I tried to leave I'd be physically restrained at this point. As much as I want to.

Yeah. I've heard it before. Pretty sure if I try to leave the Major General would physically restrain me. Dammit, we better sort this out. Like hell I want to be stuck here when she's...

[Sick. Possibly dying from this thing. And he can't do a damned thing. Can't even be there for her through it.]

I am grateful for that. You getting sick will not help Winry. If you want, I can check in on her at least once a day and tell you how she fares.

Right. I'd appreciate it. All I can do from my end is use my alchemy to help with the quarantine area and try keep Hiro and the rest working on the cure safe. Not that I have much clue on medicine for the most part but I have my alchemy and I know chemistry at least. It's enough to know she won't be alone in this.

[Hand balled into a fist as his lips purse, his gaze lowers.]
