[Winry doesn't sound like herself, if you know her. She sounds...angry.]
My name is Winry Rockbell. I have been infected with the Flare. My healing power isn't working against it. I need to get to the quarantined area.
[There's a crashing sound. Like a wrench cracking against a piece of metal.]
If you're not immune, don't come near me.
[private to Edward Elric]
You'd better take care of Zoey for me.

[Sick. Possibly dying from this thing. And he can't do a damned thing. Can't even be there for her through it.]
[Voice]
The lot of you need to stop.
I firmly believe I'm immune. I've encountered several infected persons without symptoms, and I've been working on the other side of the green zone.
[A pause.] I'll contact Maedhros.
I can't return to the green zone after checking on her--immunity is not guarantee that I'm not a carrier.
Our only choice now is to do the best that we can from the "sides" that we are on. [And she sounds sympathetic to the cause, though she won't admit to the fact that there is a part of her feeling very much the same--trapped on the other side of a barrier from the person she is most concerned about.]
[Voice--PRIVATE]
Are you all right?
[Voice--PRIVATE]
Yes sir, I'm fine. And yourself?
[There's a pause, before she adds:] I wasn't able to contact you earlier. I'd been exposed fairly early on and had been trying to lay low until I was certain I wasn't sick myself.
[Voice--PRIVATE]
[Especially while his subordinate is out there. There's a small annoyed sigh as he quickly glances around, but it doesn't last long. He turns his attention back to the feed.]
I'm glad to hear it. However, even if you are immune, don't do anything reckless. From what I understand, it sounds like this virus has a means of changing people. There's no telling what they might do in such a state. No matter what, be careful. That's an order.
[Voice--PRIVATE]
[They need people who can, as necessary, keep back larger groups of people--whether this is a reality she is pleased to be aware of or not, however, doesn't change that it's necessary.]
I'm hardly being reckless. Generally, worrying about someone engaging in reckless behavior is a concern that I have regarding you or Edward.
Re: [Voice--PRIVATE]
You make it sound like I'm just as bad as he is.
[Voice--PRIVATE]
That's because you are, sir.

Where are you?

[She might be immune, but that's still no guarantee its safe out there with the symptoms including anger and violence. Not that she can't handle herself, but that doesn't stop Ed worrying all the same. More, now he knows there's at least one other friend, another ally on the other side of all this.]
[Voice, Private]
Yes, Ed. I'm fine.
[Mostly. It feels as though the worst is to come, though she wouldn't admit to that.]
Provided she has no objections herself, I'll check on Winry and report back to you later. [There's the slightest hesitation. She clearly sympathizes with Ed, evidenced by her additional comment.] I would appreciate if you'd keep me informed of how you and the Colonel are inside the quarantine, as well.
[Voice, Private]
[Evidently there's no way Olivier or Mustang would just let him waltz out of the quarantine zone. Even if this is Winry that's involved that Ed is freaking out over.]
I can keep you posted. But really, we're fine in here for now. I've been checking and there's no breaches to my transmutation to keep us contained.
[Voice, Private]
[She sounds anxious herself, but it's just the slightest hint.]
There's no way to no that people that have been brought into the green zone were not carrying the virus prior to arrival. Breaches to the containment walls are only one of the many concerns. [Riza does not like being forcibly separated from them, though she won't repeat the point. Acknowledging the anxiety only makes it more real.]
[Voice, Private]
[Ed knows that. Which doesn't stop him wanting to be there for her. Even if he can't.]
Yeah, I know. The Major General is in charge and we're trying to do our best to keep things contained. To do what we can to help those working on a cure. But I'm glad. That Winry won't be alone, if you're there. I trust you.
[And there likely aren't too many he would. Not with Winry.]
[Voice, Private]
Good.
I'll let you know how she's doing... [For now. For now, she'll keep Ed abreast of how the young mechanic is doing. For now, she'll explain what's being done to help her handle her illness. Later, should it get there--and she hopes it won't with the people working on the cure--the updates may become fewer and further in between or even stop. She care enough about Edward to know that he wouldn't need the play-by-play of the end result of the Flare's course.]
[Voice, Private]
Right. Thanks, Lieutenant. I appreciate it. Really. I'd be there for her if I could, but having you and Mae helping her is the next best thing at least.
[But she's right. If Ed did hear about Winry worsening under the virus, it'd only make him more terrified, more prone to wanting to bust out of the quarantine to get to her and do something. Even now, the vague images in his mind of that occurring may or may not be worse than the reality from what Newt has told him on the symptoms.]

[THE BIGGEST, MOST ANNOYED SIGH]
There are others who are already attempting to figure out a cure. With the technology available here, I doubt it will take them too long. She'll be fine.

[This is Roy. Of course he's thinking of his missed dates.....]
You don't know that. Can't promise or guarantee that. I know Hiro and the others are working on this. But...it's Winry, dammit. Everyone expects me to just sit here and leave her like this.
no subject
I never said I would. [Guarantee or promise her safety.] However, even if I could guarantee it, there is nothing that you personally could do to help her right now. To think otherwise, or to try to pursue her right now, would be foolish. Until they do administer a cure, you have no choice but to stay here. No matter what may occur.

I know. I've been told that spiel already. And at the least I know she won't be alone. But still. It's...it's hard. Just waiting around here knowing what's happening to her.

[THERE'S A REASON WHY EVERYONE IS GIVING YOU THE SAME LECTURE, FULLMETAL
But he can't deny that the same sort of thoughts have passed through his own mind, what with the Lieutenant being out there as well. She may say she's immune, but what if that changed somehow, or if something else happened? He would be stuck here...useless. ]
As hard as it may be, it's best to try not to think about what may occur. Dwell on it too much, and it'll only consume you. There are people here who need protection. Focus on your duties and what you can do in here to ensure they remain safe. No matter how desperate the situation may be, if we can do that, then we are at least able to say that we were able to do something when this is over.

[Because she was right. He can't do much of anything if he goes to Winry and gets sick himself.]
no subject
[But that's enough of that.]
Which reminds me. With everything going on lately, I almost forgot. I suppose I should congratulate you.
