[ It's dark -- mostly because it's late, but there aren't an excess of lights on, either -- though Reggie's face is faintly illuminated by the light of his communicator screen and also something off-screen that might be a TV or bedside light. Either way, he's recognizable enough, and though he's smirking faintly his expression is otherwise somewhat blank.

He's been staying out of most of the current drama as best as any survival-oriented, cowardly narcissist can, which is pretty damn well. All things considered. Basically he hasn't been leaving the house if he can avoid it, for which has his reasons. ]

So, all right. Hear me out. Anyone else ever noticed how once you're here, you have to just start believin' in everything? Like that any kinda crap is possible and you just gotta get used to it... after a while you don't even have to think about it anymore. [ Which is, you know, nice. In his opinion. ] Nice thing about that is not having to worry so much about whatever happens, I think. No matter how bad things have gotten here, it's never been the end of the world.

... Well, not yet. [ And his brow crinkles at that, but only briefly. ] Kinda makes you think, huh? Like what's the best way to take advantage of being stuck in some world that actually takes okay care of us? Don't even bother arguing with me about that part, it's true and everyone oughta know it. We get a lot of free, fake time to kill being here, so I say it should be obvious: we can do whatever we can't do back where we came from. Anyway, what I actually wanna know is--

School's still a nice break in between bouts of chaos, though. Heropa High does a pretty good job of staying out of our messier situations. It's refreshing sometimes.

Yeah, it isn't so bad. As far as school goes. But I'm over the whole "routine for routine's sake" thing, it's a drag. Like tattooing "I'm in denial about something" right across your forehead.

I don't think that's necessarily true. For me, it's... Most of my life has been abnormal. Routine for routine's sake is me acknowledging my issues and trying to find a way to grow beyond them. Something like that, anyway.

Anyway... By your own logic, wouldn't blowing off routine seem like you're trying even harder to uphold your denial? You know, reverse psychology?

So that's it -- you're into the whole self-improvement thing?

[ He pauses briefly, though is quick to come to his own defense: ]

I don't see how. It ain't like trying to feel normal by acting normal, I'm embracing that this crap's all absurd and temporary. Y'know -- YOLO. The insecurity thing isn't my style.

Right. [ All of that mess aside... ] YOLO?

Yeah. Means "you only live once." Or, uh. [ Since... different connotations here, now. ] Like those people who do everything they always wanted to do 'cause they find out they only got six months left to live or some crap.

So my YOLO-ing includes growing up in relative obscurity. And other stuff. Basics first, though, like I said.

Oh, god, no. Just a mutant. The group's more high-profile than the individual, usually.

Well, you're gettin' your wish then, I guess. The only kind of mutants I know about aren't that.

Nope. I'm pretty indistinguishable from a normal human most of the time.

How are you a mutant, then? You mean it's like some powers thing like we got here?

[ He doesn't even intend it rudely this time, he's just sort of curious. ]

Yeah. I had powers-through-genetics before coming here.

Same thing here too, or you got something different this time? I dunno how that crap works if you already got something.

They're the same. I think everybody I've met who had powers back home has the same powers here.

Sounds like you guys kinda got ripped off, then.

Not really. I wouldn't think so, at least. Learning to control my powers was difficult in the first place. I wouldn't want to start all over with something else.

So what are they, anyway? Something cool or something lame?

I emit pheromones. Whether that's cool or lame kind of depends, I guess.
