[When the audio feed initializes, there isn't a sound right away, and then there's a gentle clearing of the throat before Thane actually speaks.]

In my time here, I have noticed something about humanity. You have hundreds of days commemorating events: birthdays, memorial days, celebrations of the births of dead leaders.

[He pauses for a moment. Thane doesn't usually address this many people at one time.]

I have seen several shops advertising that Sunday, the 21st of this month, is Father's Day here. Do your worlds celebrate Father's Day also?

[Another pause, and when he speaks again, there's a note of nestalgia in his voice.]

If so, and you are a father, I would like to wish you a happy Father's Day. [He thinks that's the proper sentiment.] One father to another.

My world doesn't have a...my country doesn't have a day for fathers or mothers as celebration.

I see. [A pause.] I think I like the idea of it. Good parents deserve to be honored, don't you agree?

We still have those holidays where we're from, actually. They're just harder to keep track of or even be aware of the dates on Earth when you're systems and clusters away, elsewhere.

Admittedly, before joining Shepard's crew, my interactions with humans were limited, though I've head a lot of literature.

I never paid much attention to the celebrations of the other races of my world. My own, at least, doesn't have a day such as this.

Do you see a need? If your father was deserving, shouldn't he be honored? Having a day set aside for it makes it seem as though the need a reminder.

[He pauses for a moment.]

They do seem to be rather fond of holidays. [ Her voice holds the slightest hint of amusement in it. She pauses for a second ]

Does it make you miss him? The idea of the upcoming day I mean. [ Mothers day had made her miss her daughters. All of them. ]

At this point, it's my belief humans greatly enjoy a good party, but for some reason feel the need to have an excuse for it.

[There's a teasing note to his voice when he says it, though.]

I do. We'd only just begun to reconnect, and now...the loss is great again.

It's a strange habit I've similarly observed, though I obviously tend to give more thought to the one last month. [ she sounds far too young to be a mother, and yet. ]

[He's never been very good at determining the ages of other species, so he's not judging.] If you're separating from your children, you have my sympathy.

Father's Day has adopted an increasingly commercial nature, unfortunately. I really cannot believe that people are pandering to ritual when the loss of a father is just as heartfelt throughout the year.

I find the whole event rather distasteful.

Glad I'm missing the advertising though. Sounds like a day for annoying shop people to try and pawn something off on you.

I see. I'm sorry to hear that. [And he means that. Humans take special pride in their random holidays.]

They're only doing their jobs.

My world celebrates Father's Day too. If we ever get to remember this place once we get back, maybe you can bring a few of the celebrations along with you. It's not a bad thing to celebrate.

[A pause.]

Humanity is a short-lived race with memories that fade easily.

.... yeah. We have it too. The country I'm from tends to like a lot of the holidays from the West.

Yeah, we do. [ Excuse how quiet he sounds when he says that before he clears his throat. ] It can get a little weird sometimes, though. Depending on your family situation. Or dad situation in general.
