It's been a while, but I suppose I'm curious—and it's hard to do much for curiosity, once it's born, is there? Some feelings can't be snuffed out, once they exist, no matter how much you might wish for it.

[ The voice is that of a young woman, somewhere between late teens and early twenties, lower-middle pitch and a steady cadence. A little tired, perhaps a little bored, but not irritably so. ]

Darkness, Earth, Water, Light, Wind, or Flame.

Choose one, please. But, before you do, know that there's no right answer, or wrong answer, and there's no moral component to any of them. "Light" doesn't mean good; "darkness" doesn't mean evil. Only whichever suits you. Something a little trivial, perhaps, but I'd like to hear your answers.

Where does darkness end?

Every day. Look around outside at high noon on a summer's day. If darkness hasn't ended, it's close to doing so.

Ah, but the sun doesn't illuminate the whole of the earth at once, does it? The darkness doesn't disappear; it merely moves elsewhere.

It yields, but is not destroyed.

In that case, yielding is something I wouldn't like to be either.

It simply won't do. I take pride in my work and my loyalty to Mr. Xanatos, and neither is benefited by being yielding.

[ She wasn't expecting the synopsis of his resume, that's for sure. But at least one of those titles is useful. ]

Ah, so someone that exists in this world. I suppose that makes loyalty a little more productive, than resolute devotion to someone absent.

I suppose I would still be devoted were he absent, though. [ said with a pensive little frown. ] It's in my nature.

And one's nature can be difficult to fight, if one even wants to in the first place.

Precisely. I find it easier to embrace what I am instead of trying to fight or change it.

There is some comfort in that.
