In any case, hi, I'm Trevor; Mr. Zeitlan to some of you. I was recently employed to a posting at Xavier's, and as you can imagine there's not a whole lot of accessible material on my subject, which covers abilities of every kind. I'm putting together an encyclopedia of powers based on my extensive experience in my own world and what I learn here, but there's all sorts of teaching materials I'm having to fake as I go along. Incidentally, if anyone would like to help with that, I have afternoon office hours at the Institute, and you're welcome to drop in. I teach mornings.

Okay, so killing two birds with one stone, I have a couple of questions; if you could take a moment to reply to them, or just answer one, you'd help me out no end.

First of all, what was your first experience of using your power? Was it intentional or accidental? Any details about how you felt, or the consequences of using it would be helpful, as I'd like to use other people's experiences to build confidence in my students.

Second question is a little bit of fun, really: If you didn't have the powers given to you by the porter, which abilities would you like to have had instead?

To answer your question, I was studying neurology at Columbia. We were investigating physiological changes to the human brain that might be linked to, or responsible for, significant diversions in the patient's DNA--what later turned out to be abilities.
Actually I should be clear, I never finished my doctorate, but I've been working in the same field for the last two years without it.

But perhaps you might factor in the experience of those whom possess the same skill back home. My first experience of using my ability was when I was called upon to heal an acid burn, some years ago.

You were called upon? So someone already knew that you had this ability before you used it?

It was accidental, while I was trying to understand what the officials even meant by it, and very strange. To be honest I haven't made much use of it. I prefer to rely on skills I've cultivated myself.

It's not a conventional teaching position, but Xavier's isn't a conventional school. I help people with their abilities.

Those are good questions. I have an empathic ability that wasn't really intentional or accidental, it was just on to begin with. It made it hard to live with for a while because I wasn't used to it and didn't know what to do. The healing ability was intentional. I wanted to learn to use it. I haven't had much of a chance to use the third or experience what it actually does.

An empathic ability? Do you mind if I ask you which kind? Where I'm from empathy would be the name for a variety of different powers.

Academic. I don't know what practical use it could be, beyond the use I can put it to as a teaching aid.

First time I used my powers was definitely accidental. It was triggered while I was trying to escape a fight. It's like my body moved on its own, and instead of escaping, I took out my enemy directly. Pretty jarring.

Does your second question still count if you didn't get porter powers?

The second question definitely still counts.

Automatic reaction like that isn't that unusual. At home, we often found that a burst of adrenaline, or attempt at self-preservation, would be all a power took to self-activate.

What sort of ability was it?

I can only imagine how frustrating your predicament must be.

Definitely a word for it. I suppose I could have lied and introduced myself as Doctor anyway, but by the time I realized it was already too late.

For the first question... I was a child, and it was intentional.

The first time I touched the Charter was... overwhelming. And it was both frightening and comforting, to be connected to something that described all that is, was, and could ever be.

The first time I used my power was intentional. When I arrived here, my file said I had the ability to fly, so I was eager to test it out. Not that it worked immediately, mind.

I got enhanced vision and I can share it with two people if I want too.

I also got metal corrosion, but I hadn't practice it as much, so I don't know how it really works.
