[When the video comes on it doesn't show a person, nope, just a shoulder and a cityscape that might be recognizable to its residents as Nonah. The video is shaky and unfocused when Lavellan starts walking and talking.]

Neat little contraptions those porters are, aren’t they? They remind me of something we've got back home, but with less eerie inter-dimensional pit stops and, somehow, more baffled people when you pop out the other side. [He stops walking for a moment to center the video and shrug. The background now clearly places him in a public park.

For another moment the recording goes shaky as Lavellan takes a seat on the grass, and then quickly he rights it again. The image is still blurry though, and it stays that way the rest of the video.]

And these… these things-- [He taps on the screen of the device rather than looking for a word his vocabulary doesn't have.] I’ve never seen an enchantment like it, I can’t even find the rune! They must have some talented dwarf or tranquil working on these.

[A pause.]

Anyhow, that’s enough admiring the fancy shem technology. Nice to meet you all, I’m Talyn Lavellan. The Inquisitor, if you’re the sort that cares for titles. I’m your man for all your damsels-in-distress and lost sheep related needs. Been told I’m good at that sort of thing. [A fact he is strangely proud of, if his smile is anything to go by.]

I’m not sure how quickly that business is going to get off the ground here though, so in the meantime, can anyone tell me where the good parties are around here? Preferably ones with copious amounts of alcohol and dancing that only barely qualifies as such. This elf’s got plans.

Just slightly. It's more... kill or be killed, or at the very least, "disable the bomb before it goes off", which is... well, probably a unique problem to the modern times and beyond.

We do. We have castles and bombs.

Bull's people are incredible at bomb making actually. They have something called gaatlok, it's an explosive powder but doesn't contain any lyrium!

It's sort of what makes them work, yes.

Nope. Never even heard of it, honestly. We make bombs out of things like gunpowder, or chemical or biological bombs, or... well, you can do them with eezo, but that's not so common.

And now you've lost me with "eezo". I've never heard of that.

It's...a compound, we call it element zero. It's...

It's radioactive, and it's how we propel our ships through space, and sometimes our weapons use it. And people.

I think it's unique to my world -- probably like your lyrium.

How do people use this element zero?

Are they?

Eezo harnesses dark energy, so it allows us to propel ourselves through space, or generate energy and mass effect fields -- gravity fields -- to manipulate energy.

It's what makes some of the most powerful weapons and ships in the galaxy, but it also...keeps us connected, too.

Very similar, unless I'm misunderstanding eezo.

Lyrium harnesses energy from the Fade, the realm where spirits live. I've already told you it's explosive, but it's also used to enhance weapons and armor. Mostly it's toxic, though mages can use it in potions to recharge magical energy. And, magical energy fueled by lyrium can be used to warp reality.

Oh, it's not -- it's not magic. Eezo's just energy.

It's not...normal energy. Like I know it as energy. It's different, from everything that I can tell.

I mean, I don't consider my -- biotics anything like magic, and they run off of eezo.

I don't know what biotics are, but I'm sure if I did I would challenge you on that.

They're -- we manipulate gravity? I guess that's the simplest way to put it.

From what Hawke and... Dorian said, you guys can raise the dead, if you want. Totally different. [ His voice was clear. He didn't like Dorian, and he certainly didn't like the idea of raising the dead. ~~Despite dating someone who'd died~~. ]

It's more complicated than that. We can't really raise the dead as they were before they died...

It still doesn't sit right with me. Either way, biotics still can't do that. All we can do is lift people, push them over -- float, if you're really, really good.

It's controversial in Thedas as well, honestly. And I can see why. [He... doesn't actually disagree with it himself though.]

Your biotics sound interesting, though. I'd love to see them in use sometime.

Well, I'm not exactly shy about them.

[ A half-laugh. ] Not exactly going out of my way to use 'em either, don't get me wrong, but if you catch me in the middle of a crisis, I'm probably going to be using them. They're a lot...less lethal than a gun in the middle of a crisis.

And what exactly is a gun? You might not be surprised to hear that we don't have those in Thedas.
