So it occurs to me that there are different forces at work here, among even the imPort population. I confess to have no real understanding of these political intricacies, but feel as though it's important to remain aware of the influences permeating our own subculture of sorts. So far RISE and the Justice League have been spoken of in passing, but what are these organizations and are there any others? An overview would be appreciated.

I feel I should also express my thanks to those that met with myself and my colleague last month before the swear-in, as well as to those that assisted us during the event itself. We are most grateful. We've decided to take employment at StarkTech for the time being, where we'll be heading up a new biotechnological division.

It's not particularly complicated, but it is rather invasive and was already used to extract information from the Kaiju.

So you're afraid of it being used for interrogations? Things like that?

That's a pretty good thing to be afraid of. You said it was invasive - what does that mean exactly?

It's two people sharing minds. In itself, 'invasive' is an apt descriptor.

Right, fair point. Is there any way to limit it? Modify it so there's protection for both people?

Unfortunately, my own knowledge is limited in this area, as I was never a technician for it. It could be possible, but I doubt I could develop it. What sort of interest does it hold for you?

Well - we were brought here by Lachesis, they say, but we've never been able to communicate with her. If this is something that could cross the species/language/consciousness barrier, that might enable us to speak with her.

A fair observation, but drifts aren't initiated remotely. Even if we had the technology, the government still isn't likely to grant access. Then of course, there's the consideration over whether or not whomever tested it would survive.

The issue of access COULD be overcome.

Okay, but IF IT WERE OVERCOME, would you be willing to replicate this technology for that purpose?

It's not a decision I will make lightly. I can see the merits of an attempt, but there are still considerable risks to consider. I will consider them.

Well, that was an application for the pons I didn't consider. [side glance as if to say: well? Will we?]

[Hermann sits back with a frown and a sigh. In all honesty, Newton would be the pioneer behind the technology- he'd built the pons before]

She makes a valid point. If access could be secured, it would be tempting. In all likelihood, it would be the two of us initiating the drift.

[Newt knows he'd be building it and, presumably, using it...if they decided to go that route. They. Because even if he did it alone, Hermann is directly/indirectly involved.]

Of course. Yeah, the two of us, right. I'm not putting someone else at risk. We know we're drift compatible, we've done it before, and if we want to go this route, it's our responsibility to see it through.

[He glances at Hermann]. If this could solve everything, give us the answers we need, would you want to?

[He knows all that, but it's more concrete said aloud. The two of them once again and for similar reasons.

It gives him reason to wonder if this goddess of fate had motivations after all. They'd just performed what was in all likelihood their greatest service to the world, and now they were here. Is this also something they're meant to do?

[Newt hates that fatalistic "meant to be" mentality, really, since he kind of doesn't like to believe in a divine cosmic anything, but Hermann has a point, even if he doesn't voice that one. If there was a plan in bringing them here, why not make them repeat their earlier experiment. Why not bring the guys who have experience with this, whose first leap of logic should have been "let's Drift with it!" and it shouldn't have taken a kid on the network spelling it out for them. But, right. That's what you do. When you know something works, try it again. And if it doesn't?

His heart skips a beat. For once, maybe he wanted Hermann to say no.

Newt holds up a fist between them, not entirely sure Hermann will understand the universal gesture for fistbump.]

Okay. Then we'll do it.

[Hermann stares at it, just as puzzled as the last time with a different gesture, but he raises his hand and covers Newton's fingers with his own. His mouth quirks in the hint of a smile, but he's not riding that high of adrenaline and daring this time. No, now he's wondering what it might be like to die with Newton, and just how true the claim of 'resurrection' might be]

If she doesn't exist, there's little to be concerned with. If she does however, she may be just as temperamental as we've been led to believe. I doubt she'll appreciate an invasion of whatever sentient mind she possesses.
