[ The video is blurry at first before eventually focusing in on a gentleman in suspenders and what can only be described as some kind of cowboy coat. Leather duster? Whatever. Despite the apparent old-fashioned getup, Mal looks relieved when he gets the comm to work. Feels relieved, in fact. ]

… Well. Least the comm tech’s familiar. Can’t say as I tend to send many messages out all public-like, but this seems t’be a special occasion.

[ And he is desperately grateful for that familiarity. He adjusts his suspenders a moment before putting on a neutral smile. ]

Evenin’. The name’s Malcolm Reynolds. Uh - Firefly captain. And since that likely don’t ring no bells, that’d be my spaceship. I’m guessin’ that ain’t something anyone’s seen hair nor hide of here, but I’d surely appreciate anyone who might have a thought to it. Don’t hardly seem fair for this so-called righteous governin’ force to go takin’ our property. Anyone else get stuck with that particular hand? Or any chance of there bein’ a chance it’s been stowed away somewhere hard t’find?

Because I surely get tetchy all land bound an’ all. Don’t hardly do me no favors to keep me out of the sky.

[ All neutral still - since, y’know, the government has to be listening in on this too. Wouldn’t do to advertise a break-in right up front. Just a good citizen wanting to not go crazy in a new world…

While he figures out how the hell to drop off the grid as fast as possible.

[ He clicks off for now, and as promised he'll be at the door in about thirty minutes. ]

[ And Kitty, true to her word, clocks in at work and (because the pub is mostly empty regardless) gets to work on making things nice for Mal when he comes in. She sets out little bowls of popcorn and peanuts, good bar snacks, and pours him the nice bourbon as promised. And so, when he comes in, she gestures to the seat - ]

That's your spot there.

[ And she shoots a sunny smile at him.

This is a nice spot. It's bright and open and clean, definitely a bar but not something you'd call sketchy. It's a little silly and kitschy, if anything, in the manner of any place that advertises itself as a British pub in the middle of a Florida town. But it's nice enough. Pictures on the wall by the bathroom of celebrities who have stopped in. An extensive liquor selection, and the bottles mostly full. A few truly expensive things on high shelves. Not a bad place to have a drink, and not a bad place to work, either. ]

[ That's miles nicer than most bars Mal's been in, that's for sure. The british part is lost on him - it's not as though much authenticity survives in general after five hundred years away from earth - but the atmosphere is downright nice, all things considered.

It's weird. He's not sure he likes it. But the bourbon is good, and he's desperately in need of it now. ]

I'm feelin' a mite underdressed.

[ Kitty laughs in response, shaking her head. And, cheerily, with a harmless sort of flirtation, she says - ]

It's impossible to be underdressed when you're that handsome. And, besides, you look much nicer than most of the people who come in here. Just a bit...imPorty.

How interesting. Here, you know, it's traditional for women only to wear them. I wonder if the future will see a relaxation of gender norms of clothing everywhere.

The government, you mean. Well, I certainly haven't access to their files on us, and I'd not read yours if I did.
