So, Eating Day.

[ this is important. this is the most important post he has ever made, okay? so important that he's making it from the cheeseburger bed he lives in at La Casa Ludgate-Graham. ]

I mean, Thanksgiving, right? The one where everyone makes shuck-tons of food and then spends all day stuffing their face?

[ #amnesiac problems. that, and, no one really had a lot to celebrate in the world he came from, so it wasn't really a topic that came up while, you know, hordes of cranks were swarming. ]

What's that about? Besides eating. If it's just about eating, that's fine, that's great, actually. [ says the kid happily sitting in a giant cheeseburger ] But I keep seeing klunk with turkeys and little people in weird hats and black shorts and I figure I shouldn't just go around stupid to the whole thing.

[ it's been a year. he's only saying this now. ]

Anyway, besides that, is anyone doing something for it? Last year there were a lot of different parties, and the city did a thing too, I think? Seemed like a pretty cool holiday.

Not like Halloween exists here. On Halloween, and the days after Halloween, demons - spirits - were much stronger, so you stayed indoors if you were smart. Either because you were afraid of the demons, or - more sensibly - because you knew that that was a popular day for magical duels and you knew better than to get caught in the crossfire. Christmas is good, though. Presents are nice.

What about you? You probably didn't have any good holidays, did you.

Demons and spirits? That stuff really existed for you? [ thomas's world was so firmly based in science and physics, things like magic and ghosts still feel so odd to him, even after a year here. ]

Didn't have any holidays, as far as I remember. [ he pauses, frowning as he thinks a moment. ] I remember what a holiday is, I just don't have anything for what we had specifically.

Oh - I've not told you about that? Yeah - that's where the magicians got their power from. Enslaving spirits. So that's why Halloween was dangerous - the magicians saw that their slaves were more powerful, so they went out to duel when they had more firepower. Of course, everyone's spirits got the exact same boost, so no one really had an edge over anyone else - it was all the same nonsense except that they caused even more property damage which my people then had to rebuild. But that's magicians for you, isn't it.

[ A sigh. ]

Do you know - before your world got destroyed, was it much like this one?

A little, but not too much. I knew magic was a thing, not so much the ghosts part. [ or 'spirits'. just sounds like ghosts to him. ] Yeah, you said the magicians and stuff were all shuckfaces. That's messed up, though. I'm sorry you lived with that.

[ really, he is. that's horrible, to have to be afraid just to go outside. that other people, humans, living beings, would be so careless with other peoples' lives. ]
