It's been a while since I've seen new faces on the network. [ Her smile's warm, but a little troubled. They were the first imPorts to be brought here for years, or so she's pretty sure she remembers hearing when they'd first arrived. Can it really bode well that more are coming through? ]

You must have a lot of questions. I'm sure those of us who arrived here earlier will do what we can to help answer at least some of them, so don't hesitate to ask.

[ She clears her throat. ]

But there was something else I wanted to bring up. Valentines' Day is in a couple of days. I think making your own gifts adds a personal touch, and I thought some people might feel the same way, but not know where to start. Chocolates are a pretty traditional gift -- I was going to make some for a few people tomorrow, so if anyone would like to come by and learn, I'd be happy to show you how to do it yourself.

If enough people are interested, I'll see if I can find a bigger place to accommodate us, unless you've got any suggestions. And if you want to teach people how to make something else, you're more than welcome to come.

Maybe our arrival re-activated their Porter somehow.

So it's our fault.

It would be if we'd chosen to be here in the first place. But the Porter's just as much of a mystery to us as it is to the locals.

Other people were stuck for years. They didn't figure out anything?

It seems like they figured out enough to build Porters of their own, but not ones that can take us back home.

That doesn't make much sense. Unless they just wanted to trap us all here.

I don't think it's that... The Porters they built only let them transport people and materials from one place to another, as far as I know. I think they're still researching it.

[He's kind of many things for a kid.]

They shouldn't. It doesn't do anything good.

What makes you say that?

Then wouldn't it be better for them to study it and see if they can work on how to get us back?

They say this one isn't like the one in the City. It doesn't talk, for one.

[a pause. a bit stiffly-]

Yes, I am. Thank you for asking. [ she smiles, trying to encourage him to loosen up a little, but she suspects he's this awkward all the time.

still, at least he's trying. she tips his head, trying to make a guess at his age. ]

Are you attending school now?

[he nods.]

They didn't give me a job like the other people. I'm just a student.

[Because a nine year old with a job wouldn't be weird.]

[ judging by her expression, she thinks so too. ]

You're a little young to be starting work, aren't you? [ unless he wanted to be the child star in a movie or advertisement or something... ]

I'm a little young to be here.

[Being a superhero kid. And stuff.]

[ she can't exactly deny that either. ]

That doesn't mean you have to work, though.

But they expect me to be a hero anyway.

There are different ways of being a hero, though.

Not in the way they're thinking.

[But he could be wrong.]
