 [Conan had spent the two months since his arrival in Maurtia Falls determined to avoid posting anything on the network. Without knowing everyone who might be seeing it, he had decided it was just too risky to have his face and name out there for anyone to see. Not without knowing whether one of them was here.

It had taken seven-year-old Shinichi Kudo less than ten minutes to figure out exactly how to operate the communicator. And more importantly, how to make the video function work.

The kid frowns into the video. Anyone who had ever met Conan would have no trouble recognizing him. Apart from the missing glasses, he looked exactly the same.]

Oi, I've had enough of this joke. Can I go home now?

[He taps at the camera suspiciously.]

Mom?  Dad? Is this another one of your pranks?

It hadn't taken him long to find his device, surf the network and he had super powers? Really? He was going to have to take a look at that later.

But for now, he's going to look at the young child on his feed with confusion. ]

Man, my dad just liked to try and trip me up by leaving random traps around the house to see if I could get out of them.

Mom thought it was hysterical when we would get into our prank wars.

Mom thinks its funny to take me off on vacation trips when I'm asleep. And then she hides and videotapes to see how long it takes for me to figure it out.

I wish my mom would do that!

And that means I'll actually know where Mom is half the time. I swear, she does the Skype thing just to make me guess what country she's in this week.

When was the last time you saw your parents?

What do you mean enlisted? Isn't this just somebody's prank?

[Seven-year-old Shinichi hadn't figured out what was going on here yet. ]

[Emmett pinches the bridge of his nose.]

It may be, I can't be certain. But the main reason people have been brought here is to be something like a super-powered police force, and I don't see many parents wanting to expose you to that.

Things like superpowers aren't real. Something like a super-powered police force could only exist on television. Even a kid like me knows that.

You would think that was the case, wouldn't you? I would be all too happy to agree, but. I've seen it with my own eyes.

[eastdetective]

How do you know it wasn't a trick? In detective novels optical illusions and magician's tricks can be really convincing.

[smallscott]

You're right, of course. This should all be thoroughly tested and investigated.

But I hardly think I managed to trick myself into causing lightning to appear from my own fingers.

Are you sure you weren't dreaming?

[He vaguely recognizes that face— from around the apartment, although he never actually knew his name.]

It's not a joke.

How do you know?

[Shinichi didn't recognize this guy at all. ]

'Cause I've been here for almost three months. I'd know, kid.

How is that proof of anything?

What part of it do you think is a joke? That you have powers now? That you're in America or whatever?

[eastdetective]

All of it. But the part about being in America is more believable.

[leonized]

Uh huh.

[It was kind of the opposite for him... although he had known of a place called America before he arrived.]

You seem really skeptical for a kid.

[eastdetective]

I'm going to be a detective. Skepticism is good for detectives.
