Yes, that is an ability that's been new to me. In regards to travelling over the world, well if you're Registered, you'll find that you're harassed about it far less.

Unregistered imPorts can't even use the local porters without an escort. I don't know whether or not you feel comfortable with the idea of registering, but you'll be immediately flagged as MIA if you leave the country and too many times may result in disciplinary action.

If you're registered, there's less concern over it, and travel is much less stress inducing. Generally speaking at any rate; there are exceptions of course. Really, I often find it's better to port in somewhere obscure and not draw attention to yourself on the local level.

My ability works in two different ways. The first of which all I need to do is mentally run a pair of coordinates through an abbreviated equation and the transition occurs immediately. This method costs roughly 17% more energy than the alternative, which is to write out the entire equation for what effectively amounts to quantum teleportation. Very Star Trek.

In regards to your other question, well you may lose your government benefits.

Essentially. It does have its limitations in terms of usage frequency, a trait that seems to vary among the imPort population as far as any ability is concerned.

A friend of mine for example, has the ability to manifest portals without hindrance. Similarly, it also has a scientific interface, but I've noticed that abilities do seem to be generally linked to our background of sorts.

Unfortunately, unless you have a background in the sciences, I doubt I will be much assistance in sorting out how your particular ability functions. It may be as simple as choosing a set of coordinates or picturing a location, or as complex as travelling through a medium.

If you are a registered imPort, your tattoo will work as passport, and you can use it to travel to other countries, with the exception of Soviet allies. If you aren't registered, though, leaving the country means you'll be considered AWOL.

It's not one of my powers, but it's not an uncommon ability.

As for leaving the country, I suggest traveling by airplane if you're registered. If not... you need to decide if you want to, or just deal with the consequences of going AWOL
