[ She's been fairly quiet on the network after her conversation with the other Eobard. And fairly scarce in and around Heropa. There's still things she's processing from the world turning upside down last month. And things that she's avoiding. ]

What do you do when you start to feel homesick? Have you felt homesick while here? I can't imagine anyone hasn't, but stranger things have happened. None of us can choose to go home, and it's not like I can go visit this world's version of my home because it doesn't seem to exist here.

Often, but that's no different than the way it was back in the Nexus. If my home does exist here, it wouldn't exist yet, and nor would there be any way to go and see where it will be.

I suppose I just get used to feeling it, and then sometimes I forget about it for a few hours.

The wormhole Nexus. It's what we call the network of wormholes and planets in the galaxy where -- when -- I'm from.

When and when, I'm guessing. It seems like there's a disproportionate amount of people brought here from "modern day."

We just manage the best we can.

The 21st century? I suppose so, although there's no small number of people here from my century.

Are they also from your "world," for lack of a less grandiose term than universe?

No, they're from an entirely different planet. Well, sort of. I suppose Mark Vorkosigan comes from mine, although he is a clone of someone who isn't.

Wormholes and clones. Other planets. Interesting times.

I've come to realize that's not normal for most people. Not yet, at any rate. No one back home would bat an eye about that, but these 'superpowers'--

See, we're the opposite. Superpowers are much more familiar. Not common or widespread by any stretch of the imagination, but known at least.

I'm sure some people have tried to create them using genetic engineering, but cosmetic changes are the easiest ones to make rather than trying to let a people turn invisible or establishing telepathic links.

In the case of where I'm from, it's not engineering that does it. More a case of in-born genetics and a powerful outside catalyst. Namely. an accident that wasn't exactly an accident.

That sounds horrifically unsafe and not commercially viable at all.

Well, we weren't exactly trying to create people with superpowers. So no, definitely not commercially viable. And definitely not safe.

Are there plans to make it so?

Not any put forth by any commercial entities. I wouldn't be surprised if the US Government was trying to find a way, though.

They're not looking to make a profit, are they?

No. They're looking to make weapons. And they don't care whether the person is willing or not.

A person's willingness is rarely a concern when it comes to what you can get out of it. I suppose a super powered weapon would be a considerable advantage for whichever side could create it. Or sell it.

That is exactly the opinion some in our government and military have. Not that there aren't plenty of soldiers who would do anything, including maim themselves.
