Is that all you'll be doing?

Depends. Maybe I'll feel inspired to do something with my math.

Well I suppose it's worth a try.

I mean, if you'd rather keep plotting super names I am all for that. We could go through the entire dictionary of math words, starting with Greek letters... Already nixed Alpha. You're no Beta. Gamma? We did get powers from radiation, presumably. Delta? Delta Attack Formation! Uh...epsilon? What even is it? I don't know.

In mathematics, epsilon has a variety of uses, from denoting an arbitrarily small positive quantity as in calculus, to ordinal numbers.

Delta... it could work. I use it frequently in my equations, most notably to denote the change in the variable d, for distance in teleportation. Thus, Delta-D.

Actually, considering the physics applications, Delta may well be the definition of my abilities.

[Having an epiphany moment here; a slow-rolling excitement] Newton..

....yes, Hermann?

It's perfect.

[Cue Hermann scrambling to the nearest available chalkboard wall and scribbling and talking animatedly about the delta functions he uses in his equations for different variables. It's all very math and he circles Δd several times]

Now Delta-D isn't likely to catch on terribly well, but I could settle for the Delta function on its own. You'd also mentioned military call-signs before, and while I didn't take the suggestion to heart, it's a rather wonderful coincidence. There's no Jaeger named for it, but there could be.

[Leans back on the sofa, grinning and soaking in the excited vibes and watching as Hermann works with the same gusto and flourish that he did on good days in the lab, when he used to go up and down ladders, sliding chalkboards back and forth. It makes him feel good, alive, hopeful...and very much in love with this man. And yes, he's proud to have, however loosely, thought of it.

Even so, Newt being Newt can't resist ruining it.]

Delta without the D, huh? What if I want the D?

[And Hermann, too caught up in it, doesn't immediately grasp Newton's meaning]

What? The D is just the variable for distance. Much like T would denote time.

[Turns back to Newton, realization dawning as his words slow]

While more to the point, it's not entirely nec--

[Oh.] ..essary.

[And there's the flush and clearing throat. He looks back to his work, then Newton, and slowly, decisively, sets his piece of chalk back down]

Well I suppose you did help make this discovery..

[He raises a brow and gives Hermann a pointed look before eyeing him up--the length of Hermann's legs in those loose fitting pants, his chest and stomach...all the way up to his neck where the collar of his shirt is closed right up to the top button and the skin underneath is flushed and pink.

Playfully smug, just to piss Hermann off.] Don't I help you make ALL your best discoveries?

Absolutely not.

[Though of course, Newton did help sometimes. They both had that talent; it's why they put up with each other over the years. Pushing each other, stumbling onto new lines of thought through any discourse - even mid-argument - that led to those much needed breakthroughs.

Delta. Not terrible as names go.

But right now there's Newton reclining on the couch and eyeing him up with a grin he just knows is meant to rile him up because he can feel it and god help him, it's working.

Hermann works his jaw, then gives up and stalks over and grabs Newton by the collar]

Bedroom, now.

Whoa whoa, dude!

[He stumbles upward, if that is at all possible by the laws of physics, and catches himself on Hermann, arms low around his fiance's waist. Newt gives Hermann's rear a squeeze and doesn't follow the order.]

A little eager, huh?

[Hermann's grumbling stops and he steals a kiss instead]

If I recall correctly, you're the one that propositioned and provoked me.

You asked for it.

[After the kiss, he leans down to undo some buttons and kiss Hermann's neck.] Thanks--by the way. ...Used to think we'd lose our passion if we didn't argue so fiercely anymore, but hey.

[His fingers stop midway down the trail of shirt buttons, leaving the shirt open in their wake. Newt gives a shrug, smiling.]

New turn-on: Compromise is hot.

[Hermann shivers under Newton's touch and curls his arm around his waist]

We are going to be in our seventies and still arguing everything, Newton. But I rather agree. Now if you want 'the D' we're going to need to relocate somewhere more comfortable.

[He giggles. Hermann saying 'the D' is somehow so incredibly funny. ...But in their 70s... Growing old with Hermann...

Now is not the time to get emotional...

He backsteps slowly towards the hall, leading Hermann with him.]

What? Not going to make good on that 'bend you over the couch' threat you're always issuing?

[He raises a brow, pausing them in place]

Is that how you want it?

[Hermann slowly eases weight onto his left leg to test how it might hold up. It feels strong enough, though that could always change after so much exertion]

I could probably manage it.

[He watches the test.]

Hey. We don't neeeeed to just manage it. I'm cool with the bed if it means you're not in too much pain tomorrow when I want a round two...Mmkay? We're going to make this a compromise. Because compromise is sexy.

[He leans back on his cane and regards Newton a moment. If he's hesitant to agree, it's because he curses his disability the most when they're in bed together and his body fails him. Things like this he'd like to be able to do without a second thought and he hates feeling like he's letting Newton down.]

Well it's only fair I follow through with it sometime. I could always take something for pain in the morning..

Yeah, or you could just remember I'm not unhappy or dissatisfied if we don't do it.

Really, Hermann. There's nothing 'fair' about forcing you through discomfort when there's a million other ways we can have fun.

[Hermann steps in and presses a soft kiss to Newton's lips]

I want to- some other time perhaps. But we'll retire to the bedroom for now. I do still need to reward you.

[He smiles into the kiss, then presses his forehead to Hermann's]

Yeah, you do. Lavish me with praise and reward.

[He draws him into a deeper kiss in answer]

Very well then.

[Hermann tugs them back down the hall]
