For those of you with superhero/code names, how were they decided?

I don't have a code name myself, but in my world ghouls wear masks and we name them according those masks. For example, a ghoul with a rabbit mask, we call them "The rabbit".

Sometimes it also depends on the ghoul's weapon. For example, if it resembles let's say a centipede tail, we call the ghoul "The centipede".

If we have no visuals on the ghoul, we call them by their modus operandi. A ghoul who eats a lot, we'd call them "the Binge Eater".

Mine was inherited. It's not really a code name, though. More like a title.

Usually . . . they're descriptive, aren't they? Tied to something a person can do, or something they aspire to. At least, other names I know are like that.

That's a good way of putting it. Though it's been pointed out to me that if the name is tied into your abilities, it may not be difficult for opposition to anticipate and understand how to counter them.

Bit of a difficulty all around. I wish it weren't necessary.

The scientists who were experimenting on me had to put SOMETHING down in a file for a codename for their project of me. And then I decided to keep it when I worked with a new team so that I could associate it with hopefully better times of my life.

Where I'm from, heroes often decide their code names based on whatever image or theme they want to convey to the public, although it's not unheard of for heroes to choose an alias due to sentimental or personal reasons.

In my case, my superhero name also happens to be my real name. It was a fairly straightforward decision because I had no use for a secret name at the time.

When I got serious about fighting crime, I started going by 'The Protector.' It was simple and it said what I was supposed to be. I'd rather name myself after the mission than after an animal or something else.

How noble. Not particularly inspired, but so long as you're fine with it.

ive also had previous dealings and a certain affinity with the being sharing the namesake
so i felt calling myself after echidna the mother of monsters was only appropriate
