[Superman looks honestly just....

Tired. He reaches to rub the bridge of his nose before he speaks, wondering how to even put it into words. Oh, he knows what he wants to say, knows what he wants to do. But it would be unfair to out someone without giving them a chance to work things out in this place, to become a better person.

Except, last time he tried that it ended up with him kidnapped in Crane’s basement.]

If someone from your world appeared here, someone who you knew was capable of really awful things… would you warn people?

Or would you give them a chance to be different in this place?

[Bruce is sitting casually in front of the camera. He sounds stern.]

Your a journalist, aren't you, Kent? Seek the truth. Report it. Minimize harm.

If that person shows that they're willing to change for the better, I would give them that chance.

Everyone deserves a second chance. Even if...they were really awful in the past. People can change.

[Qubit knew Superman was back. The guy's sort of hard to miss. But... he was not expecting a question like this. It is relevant in so many ways it hurts. Considering who he believes Superman to be, though, it's a question he's already answered to himself a long time ago. Inaction was just as much a decision as action.

Though he's going for "relaxed" here, his voice is even and measured, his expression neutral and on a short leash. Truth is, he's still not certain how to act around Superman. Intuition is telling him then don't act, he wouldn't fall for it anyway, but somehow it seems to happen without him trying.]

Well. That all depends on a number of things. Is this person likely to reoffend? How bad would it be if he does? Does the potential for a better outcome outweigh the risk of a bad one?

[Answers: 1) I don't know yet. 2) Apocalyptic. 3) Maybe, but the cost is unacceptably high if I'm wrong. But there's a fourth question, saturated with emotion, which always seems to overwhelm all his calculations and logic and risk-assessment.]

... Does he deserve it?

[Oh hell, Superman is here. He'd been told but he hadn't seen him or run into him--not likely since Richie wasn't running around being a hero--so getting to see him is definitely enough to make his fanboy heart flutter.

And Superman is asking a really serious question. Something so serious that instead of having his normal reaction at seeing a hero he idolizes, Richie stops and thinks about it. Because it's a situation he's been in before...kind of. Alva has been there and back before now.]

That's a heavy one, man. Sometimes people can change, but I'd want people to know too. I'm going to guess "talking it out first" isn't really the answer.

[Because if Superman is having a problem with someone, they can't just be anyone.]

Depends on the person. Nigh omnicidial space maniac? I'd lean more towards giving them a chance simply because their circumstances here would be radically different from those back home. [ what with the lack of space travel and all, THANKS FOR THAT UNIVERSE. ]

If it's your bog standard Jack the Ripper type maniac...I'm not entirely sure what I'd do.

[ Max looks... tired. He's happy that Superman is back, that much is clear. After he takes a moment to consider the question his gaze grows distant, then he frowns as old memories bubble forward. His voice is even when he speaks, but it's tinged with the slightest hint of fury. ]

What if they already had their second chance?

There are some who won't ever change. And, there is the chance that you won't be believed if you do try to warn others.

It's unfortunate that permanent death isn't a guarantee here.

[ This is something Ted has thought about more than once. If Max were to show up, what would he do? Honestly, he has no idea. But he doesn't envy the position Clark is in.

But that doesn't mean he's going to act like he's taking this seriously, oh no. Sorry, Supes. ]

Well this is certainly nice and vague. I can't even begin to guess who this could be about!

[Uhm.]

I wouldn't resort to that even if it were. And I wouldn't even- I just want people to be aware, really.

[He laughs- a little strained, a little tired, but at least it's there.]

If I told who it was it'd beat the purpose of trying to figure out which one is the best course of action, wouldn't it?

[He nods, smiling to himself. He knew Max was a pretty intuitive kid.]

That's a good question as well. How many chances do you give someone before you stop...

[He shakes his head.] It's neither, really. But if I had to pick one it'd probably be more like the first option.

He's not dangerous because he physically hurts people, it's all- [He touches his temples.] Manipulative, you know?

[That startles a chuckle out of him.]

No, Mr Wayne is a respectable man. [A beat.] For certain meanings of respectable, but he's definitely a good man.

[He gives Richie a tired grin.] I wish it were, but even if I did talk to him he could still be lying to me. He’s done that before, plenty of times. Talking would just warn him that I’m onto him.

[Just like lack of action is an answer on it’s own, the fact that he still acts to try to at least have some level of politeness when talking to Kal is enough, to him. It means he’s willing to put up with him, no matter his feelings about him (and Kal never did figure out just where all that awkwardness comes from). So Kal will meet him halfway.

He tilts his head at the questions. Not because they don’t make sense- that’s the most logical course of action, really- but all the emotions behind them. Has he stepped into some landmine again?]

He is likely to reoffend, and he has the potential to be… [A sigh.] Really bad if I am not attentive, if I lose him for even a second.

But that’s the thing. Everyone deserves a second chance, don’t they?

[His kind of people.]

That was my opinion, as well. And I did just that last time it happened: I stayed quiet because I thought the person deserved a second chance, deserved a chance to try to be better.

It ended up with that person hurting a lot of people.

[Clark just... smiles, but his eyes are still just as tired. Just as exhausted of this place and all his coming and goings. He lost Bruce, back home. He got him back, in here, but it wasn't really him.

And now this.]

Not even if there was no other way to ensure that they couldn't hurt others?

[The tiniest smirk.]

But no comment on the Gotham problem.

[she frowns]

Well, I don't know the person who you're talking about. I mean, it sounds like...if they continue to hurt people, they might not change and it's important that others are warned.

But...did you try talking to this person? Try to reach out to them and let them know there's another way?

[Clark resists the urge to reach for the pendant under his suit. The combination of the bat insignia and the s-shield with a tracker inside, the one the other Bruce gave him.

Not the time. Later.]

Can we- [He reaches to rub the back of his neck.] We should meet. Probably. Easier to talk person to person?

[He zips his mouth.] I'm not supposed to show any preference over any city.

But it's not my favorite spot for a relaxing holiday.

There is always another way. Always. No one is jury, juror and executioner.
