[Riku's face, when he appears on the network today, is a little exasperated, and a little apologetic. Behind him, something tiny and black moves, and he picks his hair up and away from it, pulling it over his shoulder for lack of anything else to do with it. A sharp-eyed observer will note that the black thing is a wing. It's small, but it's clearly a pointy, leathery bat wing. Presumably, there's a matching one.]

So... I guess I was ported out.

[His very first port-out after a year and a half. What a strange experience. Riku pauses. He's pretty sure he... owes some people an apology.]

Uh -- sorry. From what I can tell it hasn't been very long, though...? A day or so tops, I think. I saw Kagami made a post, so I thought I should clear things up.

[He's surprised you all panicked, honestly...]

I guess I should thank you all for worrying, though.

Have you ever heard rumors about a goddess? Because sometimes I wonder about that.

.. A Goddess? This is the first I've heard about it.

Yeah. They obviously -- can't control who comes through, right? So who does? And why such a concentration of people who already had powers? It's weird, right? But hearing tales of someone controlling it externally... almost makes sense.

[Riku shrugs, looking thoughtful.]

I don't know what I believe. And I've heard that whether she was there before, that she might not be anymore. It's hard to know for sure. All we've got is speculation.

It does make sense, but... If she's not here anymore, that doesn't explain why people are still coming and going, or leaving and coming back so soon. Though, it is possible that something is controlling what goes on here.

Something has to be. That's what I think. But I could be wrong, too. I wouldn't be surprised if I were wrong, you know?

If there was a real way to investigate, we could at least start coming to more of a conclusion about everything behind this.

Well... I know people have started to investigate. But until we can get up close with the Porter long enough to actually learn about it? I don't know we'll be able to learn anything.

And what happens when you do get close to the porter?

Well, nothing -- I mean, no one's been allowed near it long enough to study it. No one out of our population, I mean.

Is there security guarding it?

Yeah. Like, the people who run the Porter, when you go there, they won't let you examine it too closely.

... That in itself is suspicious. I'd say that you're onto something alright.

I mean -- maybe part of it is to do with the fact that it's probably pretty delicate. But still... that's not that convincing. Not a hundred percent, anyway.

Either way, it's worth investigating.

[He shakes his head -- he doesn't really know how to explain himself. He just... doesn't think it's out of the question to tell him he appreciates it. It seems weird to keep it to himself.]

I don't feel like it's... this isn't a business relationship, you know? I don't care about like... helping each other evenly, or anything like that. So I don't feel like you owe me, either.

That's not exactly what I meant to imply. It's just that--

[ He pauses for a moment, wanting to put this in the best way he can. ]

Friends help each other. It's not a matter of being even or not.

You're right. Which is why I feel like... it's even more important that we show each other that we appreciate it. Anyway, it doesn't matter.

[Riku hesitates, and then finds he can smile, anyway.]
