001. video.
[ The girl that appears now on the network is not incredibly competent with this technology, but nor would she publicly broadcast without having had a bit of practice beforehand. That flicker of uncertainty in her expression is stifled, and her smile is subtle but warm. ]
Hello, [ is said, with a twinge of a raised eyebrow. ] My name is Daenerys Stormborn, of the House Targaryen, and this next moon will mark the six months I've been here. I am not the first of my land to arrive -- many of you are already familiar with Ambassador Baelish.
And over the past few months, more and more of my people have come through the Porter. We represent different lands, different values, different politics, but in this world, we find ourselves with more similarities than we'd ever imagine sharing. If any of you of Westeros or Essos are viewing this [ because gods know it took her a while ] and we've yet to meet, I'd very much like to rectify that.
There are more than just us, too, who have likewise entered this land and felt like strangers to its technology, its ways. If you feel more at home in a world of horses and candles and swords, I'd like to know you too, whether you're new or have been here for sometime. We face a conflict between wishing to recall always the worlds from which we hail, and represent them proudly, while achieving a level of integration that ensures we have a voice. Perhaps there is a solution to find, between all of us.
Likewise, [ she adds, ] if you are entirely at home here but perhaps would be willing to act as a guide, then please do step forward with your name and your skills. You would want also to be a patient sort of person, but I assure you, we learn quickly.

[ Upon noting his concern, she hurries along with; ] You needn't worry, Rincewind the Wizzard. I wouldn't identify my conquering ancestors as the pleasant sort, either.
no subject
Right, well. Still, no insult meant, your highness. Or grace. Whichever you prefer. I certainly wouldn't presume.
[he clears his throat.]
But since you asked in your post, I'm... from something of a similar world, you might say. One or two major differences, of course, there always are, but - well, warriors with swords and horses, a preference for candlelight and promotions vis-à-vis beheading, cities which tend to smell like the wrong of a dog in any sort of heat... you can consider all those boxes checked.

[ Perhaps giving him a choice is a mean thing to do, given his demeanour now. Still, she isn't making the likes of Darlene or Sam or Haise identify her as such, but nor have they directly broached the whole issue of royalty so directly.
She smiles with her eyes at his list. ]
And how did you find your adaptation to America?
no subject
Referring to powerful people by their proper titles, therefore, could be called a preventative measure.]
Oh, I... well, I certainly found it, your grace. Mostly because I was swept up in a foreign invasion my first month here. Granted, the Russians were all about education. The tee-vees helped with other things. And reading, of course. I got a job at a library. Oh, and I took a computer class there, that was quite helpful.
I also had something of an advantage, seeing as I'm unfortunately used to having to adapt to strange, hostile lands at the drop of a hat. Often my own.

[ It isn't a strength she would have identified, prior to coming here, all her focus spent towards forcing the strange, hostile land to adapt to her. But this place is too large to pretend.
His words are listened to. Noted. Libraries and windows full of light, sound, and information aren't bad introductions. She remembers obtaining a map of America, and attempting to divine how large it was when compared to Westeros. ]
Do you miss your home? The features of it, I mean, rather than its people.
no subject
Oh, terribly. I've found a home for myself here, but it's never going to be quite the same. Which is also a feeling I've gotten used to. What's new is being surrounded by so many other people who share it.
...I don't know much about yours, though. Besides what little I've already told you. Since you seem to know Jorah, I imagine you've also noticed he's not the most - talkative.
