Hmph. 'S about time someone saw I'm the Hero. [That is the biggest smirk in the history of them, that then twists into a nasty scowl.] Yet, two of my pokemon - including my sneasel- are missing, and no 'powers' will make up for that.
[Pot calling kettle black here, Niko.] Whatever. I can just replace the weaklings. There's gotta be pokemon around here; what kind of place doesn't have them? Where are they? Outside this Heropa?
Same with feeding. I doubt the local meat and blood's going to be enough for active battlers, never mind a Ghost-type. [By now the ball's in a tight, angry grip. Feeding his 'mons normally isn't an issue, what with most of them being predators and carnivores (save for berries etc because game mechanics), but now... Hmph. His haunter will just have to deal with it.
How long his attempt at being polite/civil lasts is anyone's guess, though given he wants to keep that Registered Hero Status because Perks... he'll at least try.]

His eyes narrow, but he doesn't change his mind, and the haunter emerges from its pokeball with an
8-bit Gen 2eerie shriek]. A Dark-type, huh. Curse it.[Yea, that is basically a giant nail that's going to drive itself into the poor pokemon.
As far as he knows, it's a ???-type move, so. IDK how this will work out.
Also, that theme song is going to play for the entire battle. Enjoy.]

[bless you, sharpedo. archie cocks his head slightly at the type choice; unless this guy is a ghost type trainer there's not... really any reason to send a ghost type out against it.
he winces at the nail; can't help it. recoil damage is different, but archie's always hated the self-destructive ones.]

[The haunter tries to obey, but the Crunch hits. For a second, the ghost-poison struggles to stay not-fainted... But, even if the level difference was lower, it's a super effective move. Niko smirks as he recalls it. The Curse was laid, that's all that matters.] Hmph. Just a warm up for the real thing.
[This time the pokeball's tossed into the air - and out comes a rather serious, if not mean, looking golbat.] Hit it with a Confuse Ray, then get in and do a Leech Life!

--but this just got good. he grins wickedly when the golbat comes out. the confuse ray hits and mightyena isn't quick enough to dodge the leech life. it yipes when the curse does the damage and while it isn't quite fainted, certainly isn't in a state archie would keep it in battle.]
Ya did good, Mightyena. Come back, now. Crobat! Let's show this kid how it's done, eh? [archie feels SO vindicated as the giant bat materialises with an impressive shriek.] Use Cross Poison!

He's about to order another Leech Life when the pokemon's recalled - and the crobat comes out. Niko stares for a bit. Damn. He wants one.

[Sadly, that's not going to happen, because the Cross Poison hits, and even with the damage halved because type resistance, the bat still faints, and Niko's face twists into a dark, ugly look as its recalled.] Useless thing.
[And now comes the Starter - a lean mean clearly battle trained feraligatr is sent out with a snarl, the jaws snapping a few times. There's nothing kind in Nikolai's voice now - He needs to win.] Scary Face! then take it out of the air with Bite!

[archie doesn't even look at niko, instead focusing on crobat who has dragged itself back over to him. win or not, feraligatr's jaws are not to be taken lightly. he crouches down and gently looks over the wing, running a hand between crobat's ears to calm it as he heals the damage.]

[crobat trills happily when it's healed - a process that doesn't take long - and wraps one of its 'hands' around archie's wrists while grinning. archie pats its head, then recalls it before he releases mightyena to start it again. the dog's back legs give way because of the energy drained during the battle and it yelps. archie catches it, laying it down carefully on the ground.] The healin' thing or me tellin' ya why you're bad?

mightyena is healed up and back to normal quickly. it takes a bit out of archie, but he doesn't show it. he lets the giant dog sniff around the area, approaching niko while he pads over to feraligatr, putting his hands on its snout.]
You sent out Haunter even though you identified Mightyena as a dark type. You probably coulda fainted it with Golbat or this big bastard here.

[again, ignoring niko to talk to his pokémon first.]
And what? Ya think the undue suffering you put it through has done anything to make it stronger? [he sounds genuinely angry now, seeing how the poor croc woke up.] You shouldn't have these poor things. They deserve better.

Still, as soon as Archie's away from it, the croc lets out a confused sound, though it's soon recalled, Nikolai clipping the ball back to his belt without even a kind word to it.

Ain't you ever hear of the Kalos war, and how the abuse of Pokémon almost ended the world? [sure, archie almost ended the world too but he never mistreated his pokés.] They won't get stronger, just scared and tired. You'll be lucky if they don't eventually turn on ya.
