I need a list of about 80 or 90 pet names, if anybody has any suggestions.


Alternatively, I'm taking opinions on when it's not worth it to try to name individual animals anymore, and just refer to them as a collective.

How did you end up with that many pets?

Not all of them are technically pets

The Porter made me able to talk to rodents and
I've kind of become a magnet for them since.

That's slightly better. IMO, I'd say it depends—if you're talking to an individual rodent frequently, maybe use a pet name for them. If you're talking to a whole group of them, use the collective term.

I'm kinda curious now, what do they usually talk about with you? Do they chatter about trash or anything?

also, you could refer to them in platoons. then you only need like 8 or 9 names.

Also Platoons are a little military for my tastes, and rats are basically impossible to organize effectively.

They're rats, and some of them aren't really pets, technically, I guess.

What kind of pets are we talking about? Cats? Dogs? Guppies? Poison dart frogs?

Rats, mostly. Possibly a few mice and a couple of squirrels, but it's mostly rats for some reason.

You said typical pet names?

On our ship we were able to get a lot of mileage out of just using numbers. Although, that's pretty informal, and I preferred just using their names that they already had. Also, they weren't pets. But still, when you're trying to keep track of that many animals...

I tried that, but a lot of the wild ones don't really have a concept of why names are useful yet. They seem to pick it up from the others eventually, but I need to call them something in the meantime.

I tried that already. Believe it or not, wild rats don't really understand the concept of names.

An infestation implies they're completely unwelcome. As long as most of them don't come further inside than the garage, I actually don't mind them.
