Right, so. Thought experiment. Bear with me here.
Let's say you got a chance to go back and change whatever that dumb shit you did was - you know, the point where everything went wrong, or you wish you would've done something differently. Only if you change that, that means erasing everything that ever happened after too, good or bad. Everything you're proud of, and all the friends you made.
Would you do it?
[ Hm. This sounds super specific and super suspicious! HE'S JUST GONNA... COUCH IT A LITTLE. ]
I met a really weird witch, fellas.
[ #nailedit. Which is to say: hello, everyone, one Magnus Burnsides is back in town and, ostensibly, acting as though he never left! ]

[ That's not why he said no, though. He sighs, then shrugs. ]
Anyway, it ain't about me. If it was about me, I would've taken the chance - maybe you would've too. But when you go changing shit, you're changing it for more than just yourself.

[ She considers. ]
I'm not sure whether I would have taken it or not, in all honesty. There are -- many things that would make me wish to, but you are correct. Changing one choice can effect thousands, if not millions, of lives.
We do not get the luxury of knowing how many or how they are changed.

He regrets wanting it so bad he'd leave home, even for a few days. It feels foolish now. He's felt foolish about it for years. It had changed so much, and for what? A silly little title he never used. ]
No. Don't get me wrong, some decisions I figure could help people - maybe it'd make things ten times better than they were before. But that's for the kinds of people in charge of making big decisions. For regular people, changing one thing could affect, like, a dozen people at most.

I understand that, certainly. It's --
[ She pauses, because these are things that without context don't make sense, and also things she holds close to her chest in most instances. ]
Sometimes there is an entire galaxy of people whose lives would change if yours did. It's a strange feeling, is it not? And you cannot know if it would in fact be better or worse for many of them. How do you make a choice like that for so many?

[ He heaves a sigh, shaking his head. ]
What you'd change - would it change the whole galaxy?

[ She hesitates, considers for a moment, her eyes on him evaluating, serious. ]
For decades to come, from what I can tell. Millions of lives. But there is no way to tell if things would be worse or better.
What about yours?

[ But she was honest - so he'll be honest too. ]
If I changed what I wanted to change, a lot of good people would be alive again. [ He shrugs. ] But there'd be a decent chance that even more would die.
I don't think that the people I'd save would be necessarily, uh, cool with that.
