[The woman that comes on the screen is a striking figure with her bright blue eyes, ornate jewelry, and pale blue skin. Life would probably be easier for Samara if she tried to hide how she looked, but she’s used to life not being easy.]

As a Justicar I am used to receiving an unusual amount of attention. [When she speaks there’s an almost unnatural amount of calmness in her voice.] Never quite so much though. It is strange to find myself in a place where humans have such little experience with races beyond their own. [The calmness extends to that statement, although some may be able to pick up just a tiny hint of interest in her voice. Samara is actually almost curious about the reactions she gets from people. In fact, she’s curious about the reactions she will continue to get from new people.]

Strange but certainly interesting. I have found myself unusually curious as to how people will continue to adapt to my presence. [Or if they will ever adapt at all. She pauses for a second as she lifts her arm to look at the area where the tattoo is located.]

I am afraid, however, that I cannot comply with this government’s request to register with them. I have sworn an oath already and it is not to anyone of this government. [Besides she highly doubts that their values and the Code’s values would align.] The housing is appreciated, as is the offer of employment, but I will find my own way. For four hundred years I have done so and I see no reason to stop now.

No. Not that I can think of. [And she pauses again.] Though I do have a question for you.

[ His eyebrows draw down in question. ]

Alright? Go for it.

[It's okay, Kaidan. It's not a terrible question.]

Do you know Commander Shepard?

Ah --

Good question. [ What had he said to James? He used to, but that felt petty now, they'd reconciled, in his world. He'd had a harebrained idea, too, but that was far and away, now. He nodded at the camera, still a little taken aback. ]

I guess you could say I do. You know him?

Are you a friend of his or foe? [Important question. This may determine your life.]

[ A slight pause. ] He's my former CO.

[ He shook his head. ] I don't think I could ever call him an enemy.

[She smiles.] That is good to hear.

Is it? You know him?

[ He almost sounds hesitant. Did he help her too... ]

Yes. He is who I have sworn my oath to.

Oh.

Shepard? How's that...working out?

It is working well. He has been a good friend to me. [He's also her first friend in 400 years so she may be a bad judge there.]

Ah, good. [ A pause, while he rubbed at the back of his neck. ] He tends to be good at that.

So I have noticed. [She smiles a bit.] I must admit, when we first met my conversational skills were...rusty. [Shut up, Samara, they still are.]

Let me guess... [ He started, with a soft laugh. ] He got you to open up easily, didn't he?

I would not say it was easy. [She smiles though.] Eventually though, he did get me to open up.

He...has that affect on people, I've noticed. [ Not that it ever worked on him. Nope. ]

I believe that affect is part of what makes him such a talented leader.

Part of it, yeah. There's a lot more to it than that, but...

[ A laugh. ] It definitely helps.

Without that ability to inspire confidence and to get others to open up to him, there would be little that differentiated him from others that attempted to lead.

Probably. It's not just that -- I don't think. He's got a little something more than that.

[ A pause. ] When did you meet him?

I imagine he has much more than that. [She smiles fondly.]

It was not that long ago. He was sent to Illium to recruit me.

Ilium? Recruit you? For what?

[ A squint. Is she from the future... ]

For his mission against the Collectors.

[ Oh. Someone else from the past. ]

I see.
