At the time, did you think of them as such?

No, but I didn't think they were selfless either. I didn't see myself as a hero, I just thought I was doing what was necessary. Even then, if I hadn't realised that the storm was bad enough, I wouldn't have cared what happened to me. Just as long as what I thought was going to fix everything happened.

It could hardly be considered selfish, then. You weren't thinking of yourself at all. You've just said so.

There's more than one way to be selfish. It was selfish because I thought I was right to the point where I waved off concerns from my lifelong friends. When it gets to the point where you ignore people trying to stop you and can't see things from a different perspective, then it's shitty and selfish.
