I already met some of you, but I haven't done one of these yet, so, to make it official: I'm Karolina Dean. My assignment thing says that I'm supposed to be a student. Which I'm good with.

But if we're supposed to be studying, it seems like a waste to only use the resources that come from this place. There's people here from a thousand different places, and I think that learning about all of them is the best study opportunity we have.
[Okay, she might have oversold that. It felt like too much as soon as it came out, but she's a little rusty when it comes to public speaking.

She figures she'll just skip to the questions] Anyway, it'd be great if you guys could share some stuff.

So, today what I'm wondering about is, well, faith. Whatever that means to you. Whether it's the faith you have in people, or the faith you have in yourself, or in something larger than yourself.

Um. [She half-scoffs, half-laughs with a shake of her head] That sounds like an essay question. But, it's something that's important to me. If anybody's willing, I really do wanna talk about it. [She pauses, a troubled look on her face, then forces a smile on and stops recording.]

I'm honestly not entirely sure, which is why it kinda came off sounding like an English assignment.

But, um, I believe in my friends. What do you believe in?

What, you think people don't have faith in themselves? That's stupid. Almost as stupid as doubting gods or exist.

[Or well, pokemon things? with god-like powers at the very least.]

(She feels a little annoyance at his tone, but she's had a lot of practice not letting things like that show.) I think some people don't have faith in themselves. And some people do.

I think it means different things to different people.

Everything. [It's a fairly trite answer, the kind her old persona would have given. But it's still true.

Faith means disappointment.

[She pauses, about to turn off the video and then changes her mind.]

That's not much of an essay answer, is it? It's jut that you believe in something, or someone and they let you down or hurt you or get taken away. You trust in yourself, your plans and it all goes wrong.

[Another pause.]

Why are you asking? Are you tying to decide if you should have faith?

[She's probably answered comments to that effect a thousand times. She has a prepared answer, and even though it's a little canned she really did believe it.

But now she doesn't.] Something like that. I'm not sure if I can not. But I'd like to know where to place it.

[ Lucretia's voice sounds like a middle aged women, dripping in gravitas. ]

Where I come from, the gods are, uh, undeniable. Here I believe the belief in gods is often conflated with faith in them. But you can acknowledge the work they do while -- you don't have to deny their presence even if you... doubt their assistance.

I don't really have faith in any of the gods, but a good friend of mine told me that I have faith in myself. I... have to. I have to be able to handle problems without asking for help.

I think we'd all like be able to handle all our problems without help. But I don't think anyone can.

And the other thing. The religion I come from [She has a bit of queasiness on her face as she works through that phrase. It's a bit more literal than she feels comfortable with.] it's based on something. There are parts of it that are real, parts that I can prove.

But that doesn't mean that they interpret it right. You can be right about the how and wrong about the why.

Faith in people is harder to come by. But there's you, and the others. [A little scoff, like she's embarrassed to even be saying this. Nobody's ever been this annoyed to be a Hufflepuff.] Even some friends here, I guess.

[She offers a small smile; her accent is East European, Sokovian. Her appearance is that of someone in their later 20s; she's spent a couple of years here, so she's 28 now -- well, as far as time here is considered, anyhow.]

I started to grew up with religion more present in my life than it is now, but once some stuff happened, I soured on it in my later years from then on. Now I suppose it's more in... people. In a community sense.

A lot of stuff happens. [Her expression is somber, there. She's not going to mock or pry, but she definitely can relate.]

A community sense like, I believe we can do what we set our minds to?

Seems like kind of a personal way to get to know people. [An observation with a smile that exists more in her voice than her face--she's curious, first and foremost, sitting on a bed in summery pyjamas and a scarf around her neck. It's not necessarily a subject she wants to avoid, but she does want to know who she's giving her answer to.] Why's faith what you wanna start with?

I'm not sure I see the point of impersonally getting to know people. [Her voice is light, but it's mainly a deflection while she decides just how much she wants to share.

It's tempting to hide who she used to be, but it's also essentially impossible unless she can avoid talking about sixteen years of her life. And she is looking for honest answers here, which means she has to give a few of her own.] Faith defined me for most of my life. At least in every public appearance I made. It was pretty much how I introduced myself.

And now... that's not me, anymore.

religious faith isn't really something i think about too much, because it's not really faith when you know it exists, i guess??
i like to think people are basically pretty decent, though, so i guess that's faith in them??

It is faith in people. But you can have that same kind of faith in deities.

I mean, I know Thor exists, but that doesn't mean that I trust him to do what's right.
