Listen up people of Earth, this is Cayde-6 speaking. First point of order: I have been informed that I'm your new Gun Safety Campaign Spokesman and I am very happy to keep your guns safe. Safe with me because my gun didn't make the trip and I'm feeling so very, very, very naked without it. If anyone can give me a loaner I'll owe ya big time.

Point number two: Just ... think of this as one of those ice-breaking exercises. You know the ones where everybody's awkward and doesn't wanna talk but you gotta answer some stupid question? One of those. Just. Just out of idle curiosity: what is your favorite thing about Earth? It can be anything, doesn't matter how small. In fact, it might be the small things that are the most important. Asking for a friend who isn't used to seeing it so ... intact.

[He counts out his fingers to four, thinks again, and subtracts one.]

Aaand number three: gimme the skinny on good places to eat around Maurita Falls? Extra points for good ramen joints. And I mean the real stuff, none of that instant business.

[Most of those words made absolutely no sense to him, but he got the gist of it. Work hard, get crappy stuff, trade it in for better stuff, and then they took it away.]

So they did take away your weapon. That's terrible. [He lost his back on Scarif, so he didn't have it with him when he arrived here anyway, but still. He shakes his head.]

The Darkness? What does it do? And don't say it just makes things dark. [Unless that's what it does, but it sounds interesting.]

It's the enemy o' the Light and is hellbent on snuffing it out of the universe. I think. I'm not entirely sure because all that scholarly stuff is soooo not my thing. I just know that it's bad and nearly destroyed us all.

[A part of him does remember the True Darkness and it ... did in fact make things very dark. But that's a disconnected memory from lifetimes ago that he prefers to keep shuffled away.]

Wait. {Enemy of the Light? Darkness?] Are you talking about the Force?

[How is it he gets surrounded by people who are really into that, he'll never know. But damn if all that doesn't sound familiar.]

I dunno, you tell me. Again, I'm not an egghead so I couldn't tell you about the nature of the Light just that it lives in all things bla bla bla something something Guardians can do cool space magic with it.

That sounds... pretty much like the Force. [Runs his fingers through his hair.] I'm not-- it's not my thing, really, I'm not a Jedi-- they're the ones who can do the whole magic thing, if they hadn't died out. But the Force has a dark side and a light side, and it supposedly lives all around you.

They sound pretty damn similar.

Iiiiinteresting. So if I'm keeping this straight here: you guys have Guardians that you call Jedi, but they're gone now, and you haven't been eradicated by the forces of cosmic evil but also hostile alien species?

We have the Imperials who are pretty damn evil in my book, and are eradicating entire cities and planets, if they have their way, but I think that's a different thing then what you're talking about. [Makes a face.]

But yeah, pretty much.

No no we've still got some exciting parallels happening here. Or terrible ones, take your pick. We've got planet destroying imperials too, it's just that they're big nasty aliens. Right now their emperor has his ship parked outside of and is currently eating a planetoid on the rim of the system.

[What. They do have some interesting parallels happening here.] Ours are a mix of different species, but the emperor-- we have one, too-- he's got his own ships everywhere. The rebels are attacking them as best we can, but.

[He hesitates.] They have a planet killer. They call it the Death Star, it's about the size of a small moon. Some kind of space station, and they... [Shakes his head. It's clear what they're doing.]

[Oh no, it's the Traveler, but Bad. He whistles.]

I'm sorry to hear that. Your rebels, what do they got by way of assets?

[As much as he's groused about wanting to get back to on the ground missions over the decades, thinking like a Vanguard leader is what he does now.]

[Locks their conversation now, because if he gives out details, he doesn't want anyone else to know.]

A lot of Y-Wings, and a nice size fleet, if I do say so myself. We've stolen several Imperial ships as well, it's helped us do a lot of infiltration missions, using them.

A lot of infantry, a lot of bases on different worlds and moons and such. [Rattles these things off.] We're small, yes, but we're fighters.

[Good plan; Cayde is assuming his Ghost is scrambling the feed, anyway, but it doesn't hurt to be cautious.]

That's ... a lot. Not sayin' it'll be easy or nothin', but with those Imperial ships you might be able to get a strike team onto that station and disable it. Or strap a bunch of explosives to wherever will do the most damage.

[It really doesn't, not when there's no telling who's here, and he's getting the idea that there's people here who would love information like this.

And for once, he actually looks excited about something.] We just got their Death Star plans. There's a flaw in the system, something that if we can get to and hit, the whole thing will go down.

[Is reminded of Jyn saying it, now, and for a moment he wishes she was here.]

That's the kind of plan I can get behind. And lemme tell you, it's totally possible to pull off. Again, not easy without the Light, but possible.

There's someone I'd love to introduce you to, but he's... not here, right now. I don't know if he'll ever be here, but he's big about the Force, too. And he'd say the same thing. [Shakes his head with a soft smile.]

It's... it's a plan. The best one we have right now. I hope that it works.

[Cayde's filled with genuine admiration.]

Sounds like you've got a good fireteam.

I really did. [Pauses.] Do. I really do. [They're all dead now, and his face falls-- he's trying so hard not to think about this, not think about the people who gave up their lives for it all.

For the life he gave up for it all. Because he's here now, isn't he? Here and alive.] Two of them are here, actually. It was good to see them again.

[He's a little too familiar with the sentiment—he doesn't catch on exactly, but he is feeling the mood.]

Then what are you doing chatting me up? Go hang with your team, friend.

[Can't help but laugh at that. It's a soft laugh, more of a chuckle, but he can't help it.]

I am. I just thought it would be good for a new face to talk to another new face. And know that we're not all completely alone, here. [Something he's getting used to, he knows. He still feels the alone part, but he's getting better at it.]

I do appreciate the gesture. I am a little out of my usual element, after all. I mean, not that I can't adapt or nothin', I'm real good at that—but yeah, thanks.

[He thinks for a moment.]

I tell you what, sometime we should gather your team together, head out to a bar, and buy ourselves some rounds and swap a few tales.

[He appreciated it when other people did it when he first arrived, so returning the favor was easier then he expected. He nodded.]

Consider it done. We all have quite a few tales to tell, and I'm sure you have just as many. [He's assuming, because this guy has told him enough for him to know he's got stories to tell that might knock their figurative socks off.] And I know I'll never say no to having a round or three.

Yeah, that's what I like to hear! It'll be a blast, trust me. Probably not a literal one. Maybe. We'll see.

Let's try not to have it be a literal blast. Just a good time. [Because he died in a literal blast, so he'd rather not have that happen again, here.]
