[ so it turns out, even after being here for so long ( a year now, which is- it's a lot. it's a long time. so she's not thinking about that now! ) it's still really difficult for Teresa to feel comfortable talking to the camera, to post to the network. she's not shy, really, she doesn't mind listening in and responding to other people, but being on the opposite end is wildly intimidating, for some reason. but! far it be from her to step down from a challenge when she's got something on her mind ]

So, I understand the concept of secret identities. I understand the need to protect the person behind the superpowers, and protecting those close to them. I understand the desire to live a normal life outside of what you can do when you use your abilities. It's all- I get it. I promise.

But why here? Why, when everyone is equipped with powers of all kinds without fail, do people still go by an alter ego? I probably sound like I'm trying to make some kind of dig at those who choose to go by a superhero alias, but it's a genuine question. I mean, I highly doubt every one of you just really enjoys wearing a lot of spandex and leather every day, so... What's the real advantage of wearing a mask in a place like this?

[ she's already got a few vague ideas - it's not like she'd know, personally, but she has a couple of friends who rock costumes when they're out using their abilities. it's one thing to take a guess, and another to hear it from someone else, so. that's what this is. super curious, this one. ]

This is coming from someone whose world was full of a lot of codenames, and secrets, and a number of other carefully controlled things I won't get into, so I guess I'm just curious about this because I believe having the choice to be open about who we are and what we can do here is one of the best things about being here. No hiding, no secrets. So... Why?

[At some point, Robo was able to acquire a webcam of some form, so he was finally able to transmit video despite not being able to use the touchscreen of his communicator.

More importantly, he'd spent the last few weeks talking business with various people off screen. It turns out there are people who would be a little less stringent on who they give a business loan to if the person involved is an ImPort, and so the robot had managed to put down some basic framework for his new business.]

Well that was a busy few weeks but as everyone was so eager to point out, there's not a lot else to DO around here.

I am happy to announce the official founding of New Tesladyne Laboratories. It's not much, yet, but I have an office, and patent pending on a few little gizmos from back home that I'm sure SOMEONE will be interested in producing. That means I'm gonna have money coming in, and I'll need something to do with it.

SO, if you are of a scientific persuasion, I may have a position available for you at Tesladyne Labs! Roboticists, physicists, biologists, geologists...I'm looking for anyone who's willing to poke the edges of human understanding of the universe and see how it pokes back. We also do consulting.

My main goal is getting multiple heads able to focus on a dimensional portal project so we can all get out of here, but I figure in the mean time if you have any side projects you want to work on, I can probably get a lab set up for you soon enough.

[ Welcome to a brand new, somewhat bare living room! Laurie’s sitting on the floor, her comm shooting from atop the coffee table. There are a couple of half-unpacked boxes off to the side and some shuffling going on somewhere immediately off camera. ]

Oh. There it goes. Um. Hi. It’s Laurie. And Sasha.

[ Cue Sasha’s legs appearing right behind Laurie. She bends over so her face can be properly seen and waves, smiling into the camera before plopping down on the floor beside her friend. ]

Hello!

We just wanted to kinda… Show off a little bit, I guess. Because we’re currently moving into our new apartment.

[ Sasha’s smile grows a touch wider, evidently excited having their own place finally. ]

We were trying to have everything set up by Thanksgiving, but that obviously didn’t work out. We’ll definitely be in business before Christmas, though. Like… Way before, even.

Sooo, Laurie and I were thinking when we’re done setting up things we would hold a housewarming party! Yeah, so if you’re friends with us you should come over!

Right, yeah. It’s… It’s that, or another Christmas party. Or both. Take advantage of the opportunities you have, right?

Either way, if you’d like to drop by, let us know. And please know us. Unannounced guests are one thing, but unknown guests… That’s a bad time waiting to happen.
