It's come to my attention that we are like-- [he squints off-camera for a moment] three days away from Valentine's, and I've only got two questions: Where's the party, and who's in the market for a date? For the record, I am a Capricorn with exceptional taste in music, poetry, cars and alcohol.

[-- a slight pause.]

And, I mean. Come on, look at me.

[The most ridiculous, devil-may-care grin imaginable. Hear ye, hear ye, ladies and gents, Jim Kirk has the floor. But after a moment it fades and he clears his throat, going back to 'business', so to speak.]

Name's Kirk! Friends call me Jim. I'm new, but don't worry about the welcome wagon. Got that sorted out on my own. My kingdom for a good hamburger.

So what's your idea of a good song? You've gotta have something.

[She could be from another planet, or somewhere with no concept of music at all, but by the specificities of her curiosity he's guessing not.]

I don't have any strong opinions. It's mostly all new to me here... the things more familiar back home relied on fewer instruments, or were more like "folk music" here.

Oh yeah? So where's home for you?

[Learning about new places yes hi tell him things. She's probably from a low-tech world, given the description of their music, but that doesn't mean it's any less fascinating a frontier.]

Most recently, the Stohess District in Wall Sina. On the world I come from, humanity holds to its own Walls as a defense against the Titans that roam outside those Walls. There were three of them, and still are, but five years ago the outermost Wall was breached. Wall Rose and Wall Sina remain strong.

[ For now. There's no world, no real county name to attach. That's just not how her home is talked about, and definitely... no real words for places outside the Walls. ]

... You know, I feel like I kind of need context for... ['all'] a lot of... [vague gesture] that. What's a Titan?

A human-like creature, anywhere from three to fifteen meters tall. They eat humans. It's about the only function they appear to serve. They largely can't communicate, they have no complete digestive tract, they have no genitalia, most are malformed to some degree. They've very difficult to kill. Regenerating limbs... heads, sometimes, too. You can't really bleed them out.

Ah huh. Sounds... not fun.

[Understatement of the century, perhaps?]

It's shitty, yes.

[He makes an inarticulate noise.]

So this is like a vacation for you, huh? Being here. The whole superpower thing.

Relatively speaking, yes.

[Don't mind him he just dumps a variety of music playlists on her. Mostly classic rock, notably nothing after 1993. Some earlier stuff, too. Jazz, swing. Fun stuff.]

The way I see it, you're doing me a favour. Gives me somebody to chat with about it all.
